FACULTY ACCOLADES Ann Burnette delivered a talk on the arguments used by woman suffrage leaders at the program “Selling Suffrage: Words and Symbols to Win the Vote and the ERA.” The occasion was a fundraising event for the Turning Point Suffrage Memorial Association, which is raising money for a national memorial to commemorate the movement that secured women’s right to vote. She was also interviewed as an expert on presidential communication by the Washington Post for a piece entitled, “From ‘my generals’ to ‘my Kevin,’ Trump's preferred possessive can be a sign of affection or control.” Michael Burns was the keynote speaker at The Ohio State University's Academic Leadership Forum. [ 1 ] He guided the provost and every vice president, dean, and chair/director at Ohio State through a workshop focused on best practices for conducting interdisciplinary research. This workshop was based off of the CoSearch program he developed with Marian Houser. Manusheela Pokharel [ 2 ] published “Cancer information overload: Discriminant validity and relationship to sun safe behaviors,” in Patient Education and Counseling . Her article, “Health communication roles in Latino, Pacific Islander, and Caucasian Families: A qualitative investigation” was recently published in the Journal of Genetic Counseling . She also produced Creating Community through Screendance , a monthly Sans Souci Fest at the San Marcos Public Library. Her piece "UrbáTerra Bartzelona" premiered during The Merge Dance Concert Timeless . This screendance is a collaborative project by Ana Baer , Amanda McCorkle , Michelle Nance and Heike Salzer with original music from Richard D. Hall . [1] Additionally, she premiered her multimedia piece "Angeles de Tierra" and her choreography "Amitié" during the same concert. The screendance "Sympoiesis" was selected by FECIMU Festival Internacional de Cine y Multimedia, Buenos Aires, Argentina. [2] "La Sabina", "IXCHEL" and "Sympoiesis" were selected by Texan Association of Chicanos in Higher Education Conference, San Antonio and was awarded best photography by Make Art Not Fear, Porto, Portugal. The screendance "La Habana en Movimiento" was selected by İFSAK Short Film Festival, İstiklal, Istanbul, Latino & Native American Film Festival, New Haven CT, and DVDanza Festival Internacional de Videodanza, La Habana, Cuba The screendance "Olho Nú" was selected by Life in Motion Festival, Denver. Kaysie Seitz Brown and Torens Johnson , presented Stream in Motion 9.0 for the community on February 25 and for about 300 San Marcos CISD second graders on February 26 and 27 at the Patti Strickle Harrison Performing Arts Center. They began their tour at Fuentes Elementary Fine Arts Focus Campus in Kyle on March 1. New works included "Ellington Suite," choreographed by Torens Johnson , and "Don’t Dys Me," choreographed by Michelle Nance , in collaboration with the dancers. CIM TEYA was also invited to perform at the TedX.
