2 | March | College News College of Fine Arts and Communication | 3 ART AND DESIGN Art , Art Education, Art Histor y, Communication Design, Photography, & Studio Art FACULTY ACCOLADES Tommy Fitzpatrick will have a new painting up at the Dallas Art Fair through Inman Gallery Houston. [1] Mateo Gutierrez was selected as one of over 75 speakers to present at the Night of Ideas, presented by the Texas Center for Public History. [2] Kevin Jenkins has been elected treasurer and membership administrator for the Caucus of Social Theory in Art Education (CSTAE), a special interest group of the National Art Educa- tion Association (NAEA). He will serve in this role from 2025 to 2027, bringing his expertise and dedication to advancing the group's mission. CSTAE aims to integrate social theory into the teaching and research of art education, exploring the relationship between art and society and considering how art education can contribute to a deeper understanding of social dynamics. Tamara Johnson has been selected by the City of Austin's Art in Public Places (AIPP) to complete a permanent public art work for the grounds of the Elizabet Ney Museum. Tamara Johnson has been selected for the 2026-2027 solo exhibition series at Women & Their Work. Johnson will create a new body of work for her exhibition in 2027. [3] Jessica Mallios is participating in a group exhibition entitled Color into Ligh t at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, through July 2025. The exhibition is in the Nancy and Rich Kinder Building, dedicated to the museum’s international collections of modern and contemporary art. The exhibition is comprised of works by artists that emphasize their study of color dynam- ics, including artists such as Josef Albers, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Sam Gilliam, Hans Hofmann, Ellsworth Kelly, Ken Price, Hélio Oiticica, Fanny Sanín, and Ettore Sottsass. See article here. [4] Elvia Perrin’s "Interstice" print was acquired by Dena Woodall curator of drawings and prints, Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Elvia Perrin’s print "Rapple" was also selected for San Antonio Art League and Museum's 95th Juried Artists Exhibition . Tours will be led on Friday, April 25th, while the competition and judging will occur on Saturday, April 26th at San Marcos High School.
