C3 The Center for Communication, Collaboration & Creativit y (C3) CITY OF SAN MARCOS ARTS COMMISSION AWARDS LOPEZ $2,400 AND BAER $3,800 John Lopez (Music) and the 18th Annual Feria del Mariachi event planned for May 6, 2017 was awarded $2,400 from the City of San Marcos Arts Commission as part of the city’s aim to promote the arts and enhance tourism in San Marcos. It is the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Mariachi Nueva Generación, the Texas State University mariachi ensemble. The event consists of several components: scholastic mariachi competition for high school and middle school ensembles from all over Texas; first ever solo vocal competition; and an evening concert featuring the winners and Texas State’s own Mariachi Nueva Generación showcasing Texas State Alumni, with some of the most talented students to ever attend Texas State University. Ana Baer (Dance) and the Merge Dance Company concert Irretrievable were awarded $3,800 for their annual dance concert in April 2017. The funds will be used to bring an international guest artist and feature new works of artistic excellence adding a multicultural perspective. Additionally, the funding will be able to cover the costs of a free matinee geared to the local middle schools and senior population.
