four-year curatorial initiative inviting artists, designers, and thinkers to re-imagine and engage the extreme urbanism of America’s Western Sun Belt. The founding partners in the initiative are the SMU Meadows School of the Arts, which will host the Dallas convening, ASU Gammage, and UTEP Rubin Center for the Visual Arts. Erina continues to serve as a jury member for the Terra Foundation for American Art International Publication Grant that is distributed through the College Art Association. Joey Fauerso’s solo exhibition A Soft Opening [ 3] opened at David Shelton Gallery in Houston on October 14. She also has a solo show at Antenna Gallery in New Orleans that opened on October 7 and runs through November 8. Joey has work included in a show Reclaimed by Nature curated by Claudia Arozqueta at Blue Star Museum of Art, which opened November 11, and the traveling video screening SET , organized by Joey and Liz Rodda , was screened as part of Luminaria on November 11. Shannon Faseler has been invited to attend a fully funded artist residency over winter break in Iceland at the Creative Centre, Stöðvarfjörður. She will be focusing on the environment and climate change while working on and around the largest glacier in Europe. The specific body of work she will create will be ephemeral and site specific. Brian Johnson’s print “... sustainable growth...” will be included in the 77th Annual Juried American Color Print Exhibit in Philadelphia, during November. Two of Brian Johnson’s prints will be included in the national juried exhibit Print Work 2016 , at the Artist Image Resource gallery (AIR) in Pittsburgh, in December. AIR is an artist-run, non-profit print and imaging organization, which serves as a laboratory for artists, educators and the community. Brian was one of 22 artists chosen from over 160 entries. MiHyun Kim presented her paper “Transforming Teaching Methodologies for the Digital Age: Teaching Coding in Fun, Effective and Creative Ways” at SECAC (Southeastern College Art Conference) in Roanoke, Virginia, October 19–22. Jessica Mallios participated in an upcoming artist talk and panel at the National Performance Network in Austin in December. The panel included: assistant professor, Kristin Lucas (Studio Art Department, UT Austin) and associate professor, Beili Liu (Studio Art Department, UT Austin) and is moderated by DiverseWorks Curator, Rachel Cook. Mark Menjivar has work included in the exhibition Fridges Fight Back curated by The British Museum of Food at KK Outlet (KesselsKramer) in London, England. Mark had work featured in the Mexico City- based magazine, Hoja Santa . Mark led a workshop at the International School of the Americas in San Antonio with 200 students as part of his ongoing project, Migration Stories . He also presented at Texas Pecha Kucha as part of the New Cities, Future Ruins conference held at SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts. Hannah Park was invited to present at the AIGA Design Conference in Las Vegas, October 17–19. Her presentation, “Social vs. Market Value of Design: Exceptional Economy of Design Industry,” was one of the ten design education related presentations during the AIGA’s biggest design conference. Hannah was invited to participate as a mentor in the 3 Day Startup at Texas State University, November 12. 3 Day Startup is a campus workshop that teaches entrepreneurial skills to university students. This was Hannah’s second time to participate as a mentor in this workshop. The event was hosted by Emmett & Miriam McCoy College of Business Administration. Texas State is one of 150 schools participating in this initiative. 3DS alumni have launched 90 companies and raised 70 million dollars. Hannah will present a paper, “Reshaping the Exceptional Economy of Design Industry through Systems Thinking,” at the CAA 105th Annual Conference in New York, February 15–18. Caprice Pierucci installed a commissioned piece, “Deja Blue II,” for Spirit Reality Group in Dallas. She also created a piece, “Cloud 10,” for KMG Chemical Company in Fort Worth. Caprice showed two new pieces in the Davis Gallery Holiday Group Show, November 12- January 7. College of Fine Arts and Communication | 3
