Burt Pritzker’s short film Riding the Ox is a finalist in the 2016 BLOW-UP Chicago Arthouse Film Festival and has been selected for the 2016 Cutting Edge International Film Festival. Burt also had work in Twenty Five: A Conclusion at the Galveston Arts Center , June 4 - August 22 – a group exhibit celebrating 25 years under the direction of Clint Willour as curator, his last exhibit before retiring. Burt’s image, “Avocado Seed”, was included, and solo exhibit, Pathfinder , chronicled in Flatbed Press at 25 , published by the University of Texas Press, by Mark L. Smith and Katherine Brimberry. Collectors in Midland also purchased five of Burt’s prints from the “Paper Constructions” series. Randall Reid had an artist talk on October 15 at Katy Contemporary Art Museum, in conjunction with his solo exhibition The Hands of Time: A Retrospective . Randall Reid and David Hefner have multiple pieces in the Holiday Group Show at Davis Gallery, 837 W. 12th Street, Austin. Liz Rodda has been invited to give an artist talk at CalArts as a part of the Paul Branch Visiting Artist Lecture Series on Oct. 27. She will also be conducting studio visits with graduate students. Claudia Roeschmann’s design work won three American Graphic Design Awards by GD USA 2016 for her non-profit client work for the Helping Hand Home for Children, the Lake Canyon Yacht Club and the Lutheran Foundation of Texas. Claudia was invited to participate in a panel discussion at the AIGA Educator’s Conference in Bozeman, Montana, October 5 – 7, to present her international graduate student travel experiences. Claudia was also invited to participate as a table mentor and speaker in the Women Entrepreneurship Week (October 15 – 22) on campus sponsored by the Enterprise Futures Network, the Center for Gender and Diversity, and the Center for Entrepreneurial Action. Molly Sherman’s socially-engaged project, “People’s Homes: Investigating Place with Portland’s Longtime Residents,” launched this past weekend at Cerimon House in Portland, Oregon and is now installed in the front lawns of five of Portland’s oldest homeowners. This project is supported by a grant from the Precipice Fund, 4 | November & December | College News part of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts’ Regional Regranting Program, with additional support from the Calligram Foundation/Allie Furlotti. Jennifer Stob presented a paper on activist imaginaries in moving images at the International Association for Visual Culture’s biennial conference (Boston University, September 29 - October 1). Gina Tarver’s review of the exhibition and exhibition catalog Moderno: Design for Living in Brazil, Mexico, and Venezuela, 1940–1978 was recently published online in caa.reviews . STUDENT ACCOLADES Art education major Katy Gurley has been hired to teach elementary art at Annie Purl Elementary in Georgetown. Katy will complete her student teaching on December 9, and begin her teaching career on December 12. MFA students Lisa Willard and Cameo Chattin got accepted to participate in the 3DS (Day Startup) workshop run by the Center for Entrepreneurial Action at McCoy. A student team that was led by Grayson Lawrence was awarded a 2016 GDUSA award for Govely, a smartphone app designed to encourage political participation among high school students. The student team included ComDes alumna Morgan Thomas , Alex Gimson , Badri Subrahmanyam , and Arthy Vasudeva Singh from Computer Science. Other professors on the team were Dan Tamir from computer science, and Jeremy Wells from political science.
