8 | November & December | College News IN THE COMMUNITY Kaysie Seitz Brown (Dance) traveled with seven Texas State students to Trinidad and Tobago where they worked with four primary schools’ students, teachers and staff on integrating dance in the classroom. [ 1 ] The highlighted academic subject was respect for the environment. There was also a master class for dance education majors at the University of West Indies and a workshop for primary school teachers at Queen’s Hall. Jules Jones (Art and Design) and his Animal Facts club are a group of artists, writers, and scientists who share information about wildlife with the public through live performances. [ 2 ] For the past 3 years, AFC has received City of Austin funding to produce “The Biodiversity of Texas,” an hour-long performance that takes the audience through 6 different ecosystems of Texas, showcasing a variety of interesting animals that call Texas home. They highlight endangered species, species of concern, conservation efforts, and the benefits of having a diverse range of flora and fauna in our world. Art Education students (Art and Design) sponsored their annual Art Partnership exhibits at De Zavala and Travis Elementary Schools (in San Marcos). Students in the childhood artistic development class (ARTT 3372) installed children’s artworks in the hallways of the schools where they taught this semester. [3] The pride of both our art education majors and the elementary students is evident to all. Christa Oliver (Dance) taught a jazz master class in Dallas at Arlington Heights High School and coordinated dancers from Copperas Cove High School to experience a day of dance at Texas State on November 15th. The students toured the department, met Dance Director Michelle Nance , took a Modern Dance class with Nicole Wesley and observed a Merge Dance Company rehearsal.
