MUSIC Music, Music Studies, Per formance, & Sound Recording Technolog y FACULTY ACCOLADES Trio488 ( Ian Davidson , Daris Hale , and Jason Kwak) just released its first album, 488 Around the World . [ 1 ] The album, recorded at Fire Station Studios, was mastered by Texas State music recording gurus, Mark Erickson and Gary Hickinbotham . The compilation of works, all commissioned by or arranged by Trio488, features music from around the world: “Pictures of Kenya” is by Australian composer Jesmond Grixti, “Trio for Winds and Piano” by American composer Peter Petroff, and “Maendeleo,” which includes African drumming (Kari Klier) is by Tanzanian composer Kasheshi Makena. Also on the album are two additional works by Tanzanian composers; “Maasai Ol Bassoon Le Kop Kop” is by Hezron Mashuri; and “Missing Friend” is by Emmanuel Kaghondi. The album rounds out with an arrangement by Trio488 of “Three Tangos” by Argentinian composer, Astor Piazzola. Trio488 Piano is available on CDBaby, iTunes, Spotify and Apple Music. Trio488 has performed in numerous countries over four continents. Highlights include featued performances at the RioWinds Festival in Brazil and with the We Soloists in Seoul. Daris Hale , Steve Girko , and Ian Davidson , all members of the Wild Basin Winds, have released a new CD. The recording, now available on iTunes, CDBaby, and Spotify, is called Christmas Too , a compilation of jazz-inspired arrangements of holiday favorites, by Gary Sletcha, scored for woodwind quintet. Joining the three Texas State professors are flutist, Mathew Krejci, and horn player Tom Hale. The recording was mastered by Texas State faculty Gary Hickinbotham and Mark Erickson . Dr. Martin McCain served on the competition jury for the Missouri Music Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association brass competition. He joined the Memphis Symphony Orchestra trombone section as faculty for the All-West Low Brass Boot Camp, where he performed in a recital and presented the all- state tuba etudes for the participants. He also performed “Verdi’s Requiem” with the Memphis Symphony.
