20 POINTS OF PRIDE The College of Fine Arts and Communication The end of the calendar year is when media outlets and critics often provide their “Best Of ” lists. In recent years the College has embarked on an ambitious mission to become one of the premiere destinations for the fine arts and communication. The collective efforts of faculty, staff, students, and alumni have led to an ever-increasing list of national accolades that truly rank among the finest in the country. The list compiled here is based on using the actual numbers 1-20 and then finding an accolade from recent years that corresponds to that number, with ties going to the academic program. For example, KTSW has both a #8 ranking (ValueColleges.com 2017) and a #9 ranking (CollegeMagazine.com 2014), but the #8 spot went to the Theatre program based on their PerformingArtsSchools.com 2015 ranking. Likewise, Music faculty have 13 Grammy nominations but the #13 spot went to the undergraduate Art and Design program (BestArtColleges.com 2015). As a “consolation prize” the 10 Grammy Awards won by Music faculty were combined with the 9 Emmys won by Theatre and Journalism and Mass Communication alumni to give us the #19 point of pride. In sum, as impressive as this list is, it is nowhere near a complete picture of the excellence that exists here in the College of Fine Arts and Communication at Texas State University. Finally, one of the greatest points of pride is that this excellence extends across the spectrum of the College, with every unit represented multiple times. It is safe to say: We have arrived!
