Teri Evans-Palmer’s paper entitled, “The Significance of Teacher Humor and Self-Efficacy Beliefs to Enhance Instruction” was accepted for presentation and publication at the International Conference for Educational Research and Innovation (ICERI). She presented her paper and chaired the “Professional Development of Teachers” session on November 18 in Seville, Spain. Perpendicular to the Force of Gravity , an exhibit of new cast bronze sculptures by Beverly Penn , was on display October 21 through November 25 at William Campbell Contemporary Art. [ 1 ] Elvia Perrin was a visiting artist to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, courtesy of the Landmarks Arts Exhibition and Speaker program. She did an artist talk about “Creativity, Innovation, + Entrepreneurship” and had a solo show of her prints at the School of Art. Alessandro Segalini is happy to be the advisor for, and to have inspired the creation of, a student calligraphy club. Alessandro travelled to Boston in August to give a talk at TypeCon. Molly Sherman and her collaborators Harrell Fletcher (Portland State University), Greg Pond (Sewanee), and Anna Craycroft (Yale) have been awarded a Yale-Sewanee Collaborative for Southern Appalachian Studies Grant with generous funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for the development of a new inquiry- based project at Sewanee: The University of the South that investigates Highlander Folk School’s history in Appalachia and its significant influence on social engagement and participatory education. Molly has new work in the group exhibition LIFT, curated by Bridge Projects at Artpace in San Antonio. The exhibition runs through December 31st. Molly presented at the Teaching Social Practice conference at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on the topic of “Collaborative Books and Participatory Publishing.” Jennifer Stob was invited to present a paper entitled, “Split Screen/Superimposition: Political Anamorphosis in Contemporary Experimental Documentary” at the Third Annual Documentary Theory/Practice Symposium at Temple University. The symposium, whose topic was “Documentary After Farocki,” was livestreamed to an audience assembled at the Farocki Institute in Berlin, Germany. Jennifer’s article, “The Delinquency of the Script: Corneliu Porumboiu’s Police, Adjective” is the lead College of Fine Arts and Communication | 3 article in the special issue on New Romanian Cinema (Volume 41, No. 2, October 2017) edited by Alina Haliliuc and Jesse Schlotterbeck (Denison University) in the peer-reviewed journal, Film Criticism . Barry Stone is participating in Open Codes-Living in Digital Worlds , Center for Art and Media (ZKM), Karlsruhe, Germany, to open October 20th and will be on view until August, 8, 2018 and Home Bodies , Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio, on view until Jan 21, 2018. Barry will also host an Austin book launch party for his new monograph, Daily in a Nimble Sea at Mass Gallery, on Saturday, November 11 at 1pm. [ 2 ] On Friday, Oct. 6, Gina Tarver presented “Recollecting and Connecting Overlooked Art of Cali/Cali: Alicia Barney and Women Environmental Artists of California” at Teaching and Writing the Art Histories of Latin America, a small symposium sponsored by The Art Historians of Southern California & Getty Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, at The Getty Center, Los Angeles, California. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Clover Cochran (Sculpture, 1996) owns a downtown art studio in Caldwell, Texas where she is working on a monument to honor country historical figures Edward Burleson and Matthew Caldwell. In addition, the City of Smithville earned a National Endowment for the Arts grant and named Clover as the Program Coordinator/ Mural Artistic Director for their Arts Bridging Community program. Blair Currin (Graphic Design) After a 20+ year career as a graphic designer, Blair returned to his first love: painting. Since then he has been selected for many juried competitions and exhibitions, and his award-winning works are in several private collections. SCHOOL ACCOLADES Texas State Galleries’ Last Supper exhibition [ 3] was reviewed on Glasstire (September 19, 2017) and featured among Glasstire’s Top Five (October 19, 2017). The exhibition was also profiled in The University Star . Texas State Galleries’ fall programming was highlighted on Other Side Drive , KTSW (89.9).
