Her term begins January 1, 2020. Judy Oskam traveled to Beijing, China in November as part of a delegation of US deans and directors of Journalism and Mass Communication programs. Coordinated and hosted by Renmin University, the Dean’s Conference was part of the 2019 Annual Convention of the Chinese Association of Journalism and Communication. Te US administrators discussed the evolving media industry and curriculum with students and faculty. Te Leading Together Initiative was launched at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication in August and will likely continue through the World Journalism Education Congress, scheduled for Beijing in 2022. Te delegation included: Jennifer Greer-Kentucky, Tor Wasbotten-Santa Clara, Al Stavitsky-Nevada, Reno, Gracie Lawson-Borders-Howard, Judy Oskam-Texas State, Mike Wirth-Tennessee, James Stewart-Nichols State and Weiwu Zhang-Texas Tech. [ 1 - 2 ] STUDENT ACCOLADES Daniella Carrera's research poster was accepted to the iSchools iConference in Sweden (March 22-27, 2020). For more information, click here. Carrington Tatum, Journalism senior, will be a general assignments intern at the Washington Post in summer 2020. Carrington is currently a reporting fellow at the Texas Tribune and will continue in that position in the spring. He was editor of the University Star as a junior in 2018-2019. Jenny Buschhorn was awarded the 2019 Educator of the Year by the Austin chapter of the American Advertising Federation, making it the second year in a row Texas State University faculty member was selected for this award. Te selection committee was so impressed by her continued support of students and engagement in the community that she even beat out fellow nominee Mathew McConaughey. Her role as advertising program head has allowed her to move beyond the classroom and make meaningful changes to the advertising curriculum that foster student development. Jenny continues to dedicate her time and energy to students by mentoring them through scholarships (i.e. Most Promising Multi-Cultural Student), internship recommendations (i.e. Multi-Cultural Advertising Intern Program), and career opportunities (i.e. GSD&M, Droga5, Digitas, Wieden Kennedy, HEB, and HP).” [ 3] For video, click here.
