Lee was invited to participate in a residency with Design Inquiry at the Institute of Contemporary Art at the Maine College of Art in Portland in October. Te theme of the residency was “Currency.” Lee’s response explored the currency of language related to belonging and intimacy. Alice has been invited by Personas Collective to speak on a panel titled, "Making Room in Colorless Spaces," during Austin Design. Jessica Mallios gave a talk at the Society for Photographic Education’s South Central Conference titled “With As Many People As Possible” from October 10-12, at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Mark Menjivar was a visiting artist at the Athens Institute of Contemporary Art in Athens, GA in conjunction with the exhibition Losing Control: Guns, Government, and Group-Tink . He performed his project Open Letters at Artpace in San Antoio. Tis is the frst of 18 events that will take place over the next 12 months as part of his Interchange Fellowship. Mark led a workshop for Groundswell members on how to activate oral histories in socially engaged ways. Groundswell is a dynamic network of oral historians, activists, cultural workers, community organizers, and documentary artists that use oral history and narrative in creative and transformative social change. Kathleen McShane-Bolton’s "Interior" was selected for the Tyrone Guthrie Centre Collection, Gallery Bailieborough, Cavan, Ireland touring exhibition, November-January 2, 2020. Annie Miller’s work is part of Texas Toast at Co-Lab Projects in Austin. Elvia Perrin is a featured artist with an interview in the book Fine Artists: A Practical Career Guide , written by Marcia Santore, releasing December 2019. Elvia was also commissioned to do 2 "Oculus" prints for Hyatt Hotel, TCU Guest Rooms, Fort Worth. Molly Sherman’s design for Migration Stories was selected for the Communication Arts Typography Annual 10 . Molly and her collaborator Emily Fitzgerald were selected for Open Signal’s 2019–2020 Hold the Phone residency. Dimitry Tetin’s two-person collaborative publishing project Track and Field was exhibited at the Chicago Art Book Fair on November 15–17. STUDENT ACCOLADES Robert Warrix and Samantha Chapman , ComDes students are invited to present their project outcomes from the Study Abroad Program in Beijing, China at the 2nd Asian Middle Eastern Studies Student Research Symposium on December 3. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Photography Alumni Caylee Davis , who teaches photography at Bryan High School, brought 40 of her students to tour the Photography program at Sabinal and the School of Art and Design. [4] Studio Art Lecturer, Elvia Perrin volunteered to give a short print demo to the touring students. Art History Alumni Anthony Romero and Josh Rios have been selected as part of the 60 artists to be featured in State of the Art 2020 at the Momentary and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. College of F ts and Communication | 5 Mark Menjivar's project Birding the DoSeum opened at the DoSeum in San Antonio. [ 5 - 6] Tis exhibition is part of their 2019 Artist-in-Residence program and is open until January 12. Mark says, "In my art practice I use photography, text, archives, stories and objects to create projects that emphasize exploration and action with diverse subjects. My work primarily originates from asking a core set of questions, while inviting people to participate inside of the conceptual structures that develop through the project. Birding the DoSeum is a socially engaged, participatory project that will invite visitors to explore the world around them through the act of birding. Birding is about so much more than just birds.
