In October Texas State’s Department of Theatre and Dance opened the New Works Festival. One of the plays Marry me, Bruno Mars by Megan Tabaque included bobcats: Hailey Heitmeyer, Jaden Petty, Kylie Hill, Gianni Trevino, Deric Marsh, Seth Lewis, Illiana Perez, Allison Mendoza, and Emilio Amaya . One of the other plays The Last Mixtape by Raul Garza” included bobcats: Samuel Morales, Lili Shank, Brady Hill, and Hunter Domzalski and the final play 70.3 by Ana Paula Martinez Medina included Bobcats: Katelyn Segarra, Emma Davis, Brynna Fiedler, AJ Jackson, Connor Turnbo, Brian Willery II, and Eva De Guelle . In November Texas State’s Department of Theatre and Dance opened “Rent” directed by faculty member Tom Delbello. The production included Bobcats: Mackenzie Cooper, Ivy Clammons, Ana Paula Monterrubio, Lauren Garanzuay, Moira Poh, Lizzy Tucker, Mia Kaplan, Jennifer Gonzalez, Austin Riley, Tyler Jordan Wesley, Eric Shawn, Ella Jackson, Amelia Aguilar, Zach Pifer, Kevin Bowman, Chloe Meinershagen, Zephaniah Divine Wages , and Jacob Canderozzi. [2] In November Texas State’s Department of Theatre and Dance opened The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe and directed by Kathleen McDowell . The production includes bobcats: Sara Scheidt, Zoe Barkhurst, Nyah Adler, Alyssa Hurtado , and Kate Manson. STUDENT ACCOLADES Gabriel Cruz starred as Antipholus of Syracuse in Austin Shakespeare's Young Shakespeares production of the The Comedy of Errors this June at the Curtain Theater and was nominated for Outstanding Young Performer by the B. Iden Payne Awards Committee. William Ellis had a reading of his play Conversations to be Had at the Coffee Bar on the square on November 10th. Casey Prowell worked as the fight choreographer for The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe ” with the Coll Street Players. Prowell was also a lighting designer for Slay Bells: A Holiday Murder Mystery at Austin Education Theatre in Menchaca. College of Fine Arts and Communication | 19 Thomas Carter was interviewed for the first episode of "In Conversation with... " He has enjoyed a storied career as an actor, director, and producer for both television and film. He received the Emmy Award (1990 and 1991) for Best Director of a Dramatic Series for episodes of Equal Justice , a series he co-created and executive produced. In 1998 He received the Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie as Executive Producer of Don King: Only in America , a film for which he also recieved the George Foster Peabody Award and the Broadcast Film Critics Award. Thomas is also the recipient of the prestigious Director’s Guild of America Award for Hill Street Blues , a series for which he directed 9 episodes, two of which received Emmy nominations. He was also nominated for an Emmy for his direction of an episode of Midnight Caller (1989) and received a Director’s Guild of America nomination for his direction of Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story (2010), a TNT movie starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. In 1975, Thomas started his career as an actor. He has appeared in 15 different television shows, most notably as series co-star James Hayward in the ground- breaking show The White Shadow (1978- 1981). While on this show, Thomas started his transition to being a director, helming 4 episodes. Thomas has directed episodes for over 50 different television shows. He is well-known for setting the directorial and visual style for many distinguished television pilots, including Miami Vice , St. Elsewhere , and Equal Justice . He has directed 13 pilots that have gone to series. His feature films include: Swing Kids (1993, Disney’s Hollywood Pictures, starring Robert Sean Leonard, Christian Bale, and (uncredited) Kenneth Branagh); Metro (1997, Touchstone, action/suspense starring Eddie Murphy); Save The Last Dance (2001, Paramount, box-office smash starring Julie Stiles, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Kerry Washington); Coach Carter (2005, Paramount, starring Samuel Jackson). [3] #DISTIGUISHED ALLUMNI SPOTGHLGHT THEATRE Acting, Musical Theatre, Per formance and Production, Teacher Certif ication in Theatre, Technical Production, & Theatre FACULTY ACCOLADES Michael Costello is directing Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov with B.F.A. junior and senior acting majors for January 23-28 performances on the Texas State Main Stage. Yesenia Garcia Herrington co-lead a roundtable panel titled, "Stop Repeating History and DO BETTER: Solutions for Undoing Exclusionary Practices in the Classroom and Faculty Spaces" at the 2023 ATHE (Association for Theatre in Higher Education) conference in Austin. She was an invited guest speaker at the Latin@xé Artists ATX gathering at the Groundfloor Theatre in Austin. She made her TXST debut with The Wolves (Soccer Mom) directed by Kathleen McDowell (M.F.A. Directing), completed filming for Halfway to Heaven , a student short film directed by Emery Jones (B.F.A. Film), and was cast in a national pharmaceutical commercial. [1] Ana Martínez was awarded with a Targeted Research Grant by The American Society for Theatre Research, ASTR, for completion of Performing the Goodlife: Latin American and Latinx Theatre and the Environment. She also delivered a plenary presentation at the ASTR 2023 Annual Conference in Providence, Rhode Island titled "Colombia's Mojojoy: Decolonizing Hope, Food, and Performance.” Annie Silverstein ’s short documentary Breaking Silence won the 2023 #MyJustice Film Award at Doc NYC Film Festival in November. DEPARTMENT ACCOLADES In December the Broadway Our Way Cabaret opens directed by bobcat Hailey Thomas and assistant directed by Drew Barber and Mckenlee Wilson in the performing arts center.
