Ana Baer Carrillo and Michelle Nance screendances Homemaker and Te Wall were selected for the Festival Guiar Screendance International, Pernambuco, Brazil. Both pieces are a collaboration with Michelle Nance and composer Richard D. Hall . Christa Oliver was featured in one of the episodes of Susan Busa’s web series. Te series will be on the Department’s site and You Tube page. Christa’s Advanced Modern class visited the Texas State Portal (part of Common Experience) in October and had a wonderful experience dancing, teaching and learning LIVE from dancers from Kigali, Rwanda. [1] Susan Busa’s flm students Xavier Lopez , Hanna Patterson , Duncan Smith , Karina Figueroa , and Nicole Auringer are creating a documentary of the event. Nicole Wesley co-directed the 2018 COCO Dance Festival at Queen’s Hall in Port of Spain, Trinidad. She premiered her choreographic work "the absence of self," co-choreographed with Ana Baer with music by Richard D. Hall . In addition to directing and presenting, she also co-facilitated with Kaysie Seitz Brown and Scott Vandenberg in bringing 19 students to the festival. In addition to their performances in COCO, the students attended classes and engaged in outreach at local primary schools. Scott Vandenberg served as Lighting Designer for the festival. Nicole Wesley was honored with the Foundations of Excellence award given by the Student Foundation Organization in conjunction with the Dean’s Ofce. STUDENT ACCOLADES Opening Door Dance Teatre presented Avante at the Patti Strickel Harrison Teatre as part of the Common Experience in Innovation. Artistic Director: LeAnne Smith and Lighting Designer: Scott Vandenberg . Kaysie Seitz Brown , Michelle Nance , and Nicole Wesley performed in Ana Baer’s and Heike Salzer’s WECreateSpaces . [ 2] Lecturer Christa Oliver collaborated with West African drummer, Abou Sylla and performed by students. LeAnne Smith , Lecturer Amanda McCorkle and alumnus, Samantha Furry Bridges performed in Shay Ishii’s In Safron Colored Mantle . Amanda McCorkle presented "TransPecos," and Brandon Gonzalez premiered "I horizon you." Eight Dance majors and Christa Oliver taught free jazz and modern masterclasses to ffty dancers from Simon Middle School, forty dancers from Chapa Middle School, and dancers from Mountain Valley Dance Team and Miller Middle School. Christa created an opportunity for IBA Hip-Hop Dance Team, Tanesha Payne, and Tayler Jenkins to perform for 1,100 students at Round Rock ISD’s Day of Dance in November. [ 3] Ana Baer Carrillo received the Presidential Seminar Award, the university's highest annual award for scholarly creative achievement, and presented the video installation Espacios Latentes/Latent Spaces at Texas State Galleries. A collaboration with Richard D Hal l (School of Music) and Cheri Prough DeVol (Teatre professor). Opening event with live dance by: Michelle Nance (director and performer) and performers Pat Stone , Brandon Gonzalez , and guest artists Heike Salzer and Rocio Luna. Live music by Texas State Mysterium directed by Richard D. Hall . Te project exploreed two broad themes within Baer’s site-specifc screendance work: “extreme environments” and “identity, roots, and home.” College of Fine Arts and Communication | 11
