1 Susan Busa at the Women Texas Film Festival in Dallas in August 2 Te Crucible , directed by Michael Costello 3 Cabaret , directed by Tom Delbello 16 | November & December | College News THEATRE Acting, Musical Theatre, Per formance and Production, Teacher Certif ication in Theatre, Technical Production, & Theatre FACULTY ACCOLADES Susan Busa’s short flm Sleepover was an ofcial selection at the Women Texas Film Festival in Dallas in August and at the Austin Comedy Short Film Festival in September. [1] Linda Nenno Breining starred in the flm and Texas State alumni, Corey McMinn , Ryan Sultemeier , and Alex J. Ross were on the crew. Susan Busa’s company Twenty-Two Twenty-Two Media ran a successful crowdfunding campaign on Seed & Spark for their up-coming flm, Babydoll . Te crowdfunding team included current Texas State students, Kendall Boyd , Miriam Kalala , Duncan Smith and Joshua Deming and alumni Cory McMinn , Opeyemi Jaiyeoba , Alex J. Ross , and Mitchell Oden . Cory McMinn was also the sound designer for the crowdfunding pitch video. Linda Nenno Breining is currently developing an Oratorio by composer Nell Clowder. Te subject is the Grimke sisters, the early American sufragettes and abolitionists. Linda sang the role of Sarah Grimke at a house concert in Austin on October 21. Michael Costello , directed a sold-out production of Te Crucible on the Mainstage. [ 2] Te production featured scenic design by faculty member, Cheri Prough DeVol , and additional design work by graduate students Carlos Nine (lights) and Madison Cagle (costume), as well as sound design by undergraduate Performance and Production major, John Michael Hoke . Hayes Richard (B.F.A. Technical Production) was production stage manager. Te cast included: Malik James , Emily Absher , Jessica Healey , Grace Hickey , Evan Hays , Jack Durham , Lizzie Rees , Brandon Douglas , Dani Trevino , Payton Bioletto , Abigail Remaley , Vivian Noble , Trevor Mouton , Laney Neumann , Matthew Vo , Tanner Berg , Wil Wilkerson , Casey Glaude , Nick Wigg , Lauren Green , and Josie Loving . Kiira Schmidt Carper completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training with Breathe for Change, a movement that empowers educators to enhance well-being in their lives, classrooms, and school communities. Tom Delbello , third year M.F.A. in Directing, directed a sold-out, critically acclaimed production of Cabaret in the Patti Strickel Harrison Teatre in mid-November. [ 3] Te show featured work by M.F.A. designers Gary Tornsberry (scenic), Alexander Stearns (costumes), and Miriah Borden (lights). B.F.A. Technical Production major, Jason Taylor designed the sound. Choreography was designed by B.F.A. Musical Teatre majors Jacob Burns and Beau Harmon . Faculty member, Greg Bolin , provided music direction. Connor Feagin was the production stage manager. Te cast included: John Fredrickson , Logan-Rae , Nick Eibler , Anna Rose Daugherty , Grayson Samuels , Bella Coppola , Jake Young , Maura Gill , Juliette Redden , Sophia Ludovici , Lily Kren , Ashlyn Maddox , Jacob Burns , Cameron Sirian , Chris Clark , Jeremiah Porter , Juliana Lamia , Emma Kessler , Matthew Kennedy , and Riley Edwards . Critical response was outstanding with reviews from BroadwayWorld , CTX Live , and Austin360. Sister Aimee , a feature flm set in 1926 about America’s most famous evangelist, will premiere at Sundance Film Festival in January. Lecturer Shelby Hadden is an Associate Producer on the flm. Sheila Hargett has costume designs on display at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio. Te exhibition is titled: LOL: Te Art of staged Comedy . Te exhibit runs from November 8 through February 17. Lynzy Lab has been invited to talk and perform at the TEDxWomen Conference in Switzerland. Te conference is one of the largest TEDx events in Europe and will be attended by TEDx founder, Ricky Wurman. Lauren Lane performed with Richard Tomas , Chita Rivera , John Glover , Michael Learned , Babs George , Martin Burke and others in celebration of Terrance McNally’s 80th birthday at Zach Teatre in Austin. American Son , playing at the Booth Teatre on Broadway through January 27, has received excellent reviews. Jesse Green of Te New York Times calls it “incisive and breakneck” – a play with “unrelentingly high tension.” Te play stars Kerry Washington, Steven Pasquale, Jeremy Jordan, and Eugene Lee . Will Lewis just had his article “Te Media Afects of Political Performance: Unmasking the Real and the Now” accepted for publication in GPS: Global Performance Studies the peer-reviewed journal sponsored by Performance Studies International (PSi). Sarah EC Maines designed the lighting for Terrence McNally’s 80th Birthday Gala Performance featuring Chita Rivera, Richard Tomas, Michael Learned, John Glover, and more at ZACH Teatre in Austin. She also designed the lighting for A Christmas Carol: A Rockin’ Family Musical now playing at ZACH. In October, Sarah was invited to review portfolios at the LDI (Live Design International) 2018 Conference and Convention in Las Vegas. Michael Maresca recently did a TEDx Talk on “Questions, One Voice, Singing and the Pattern that May Change it All.” He sang with Texas State Musical Teatre students in a TEDx Mashup arranged by senior musical theatre major Daniel Z. Miller , and performed by Emma Lenderman , Ashlyn Maddox , Rachel Webb , Cristina Sastre , Ana Yi Puig , Daniel Z. Miller , Austin Kelly , Grayson Samuels , Caleb Peters , and Chris Clark . Anne McMeeking was Scenic Designer for Zach Scott Teatre’s Tortoise and Hare . Toby Minor won the B. Iden Payne award for Best Fight Choreography for Richard III with Hidden Room Teater. Te production also won a Special Recognition award for Dramaturgy, with Toby serving as part of the research team. Toby has also been nominated for a Broadway World Lead Actor in a Comedy award for his role as Falstaf in Te Merry Wives of Windsor and Featured Actor in a Comedy for his role as Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing . How I Learned to Drive played to sold-out houses in the PSH Foundation Teatre in mid-November. Te production was directed by Allison Price (M.F.A., Directing), with scenic design by Abigail Van Scoy (M.F.A., Design), costume design by Chanda Hawthorne (M.F.A., Design), lighting design by Amy Evans (B.F.A., Technical Production), and sound design by Ryan Middleton (B.F.A., Technical Production).
