COLLEGEOFFINEARTSANDCOMMUNICATION NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER ISSUE FALL 2018 LET TER FROM THE DEAN DR . JOHN FLEMING As the holidays approach, I extend my appreciation to the faculty, staf, students, and alumni that make Texas State such a special place. Te accolades keep rolling in as JMC’s Clay Craig was named the Austin Advertising Federation’s Educator of the Year (p.12), Music’s John Lopez won the William Aguilar Cultural Arts Award (p.14), and Sherry Snowden was inducted as a Distinguished Fellow of the Texas Art Education Association (p.3). Music students won Singer of the Year awards (p.15), while advertising students won national awards (p.13) and Te University Star received a top 10 designation at the National College Media Convention (p.13). Te National Communication Association (NCA) selected Texas State’s Communication Studies M.A. program as this year’s Outstanding/Innovative Master’s Degree Program award winner (p. 8). Communication Studies faculty and graduate students won multiple Top Paper Awards at the NCA conference (pp.6-7), while Marian Houser was recognized with a Distinguished Article Award and Stephanie Dailey had one of the most downloaded articles in her feld (p.6). Cindy Royal secured a $150,000 grant from the Knight Foundation (p.13), and Ana Baer received the Presidential Seminar Award (p.11). Art and Design faculty presented their work in Austin, Houston, Dallas, Cincinnati, Denver, High Point (NC), Jonesboro (AK), Alfred (NY), New York City, and Chile (pp.2-3), while Dance faculty and students shared their work with audiences in Brazil, Rwanda, and Trinidad (p.10). Holly Wise is currently a Fulbright Scholar in Bangalore, India (p.13), and Lynzy Lab is a featured speaker and performer at the TEDxWOMEN conference in Switzerland (p.17). Locally, theatre had sold-our productions of Te Crucible , Cabaret , and How I Learned to Drive (pp. 16-27), while theatre alumni continue to perform across the country (pp.18-19), including Eugene Lee in Broadway's American Son , and Ben Mayne in the new Bob Dylan musical Girl from the North Country at Te Public Teatre in NYC.
