Tis is ICOSA’s contribution to the East Austin Studio Tour. Te exhibition was curated by Annette DiMeo Carlozzi. It opened on October 19th and ran through the duration of the EAST tour, closing on November 18. Kathleen McShane Bolton gave a Visiting Artist presentation at New York State College of Art and Design at Alfred University on November 1. [1] She will also participate in a discussion during the Ikebana Ziggurat exhibition with fellow faculty and fellow student alumni of NYSCAD Alfred University, including Mary Lum, Paul Kotula, and Sally Ross. Shawn Camp had a multimedia exhibition called Equivocation at Northern-Southern Gallery in September and his solo show of paintings “My heaven and hell are the same” opened last weekend at Gallery Shoal Creek in Austin. He was also interviewed for the podcast Austin Art Talk this month. Jef Dell and Margo Handwerker participated in roundtable discussion for “Philosophy Mixed Podcast: Philosophy and Art,” KTSW (September 27, 2018). Tommy Fitzpatrick has three new paintings up this month at Garvey Simon Gallery in NYC / Chelsea. Margo Handwerker co-authored “Take Tis Hammer (After Leadbelly),” a contribution to Art Journal OPEN’s series "Beyond Survival: Public Support for the Arts and Humanities” (October 25, 2018). Two of Brian Johnson's prints were selected for inclusion in the 2019 Delta National Small Prints Exhibition at the Bradbury Art Museum. Tis year’s juror was José Diaz, Chief Curator of Te Andy Warhol Museum. Rebecca Marino is co-editor and co-founder for the visual art and literary publication Confict of Interest which released its third and fnal annual hard copy, Volume Tree on Friday, November 9. Mark Menjivar’s project Open Letters , an ongoing project that engages Texas communities in dialogue around capital punishment issues, debuted at the Rothko Chapel in Houston on October 10th. Elvia Perrin had new prints featured at High Point Fall Market, exhibiting with Wendover Art Resourcer as a featured artist, High Point, NC. Her four prints “Oculus 1+ 2, Track 1 + 2” prints are for sell under Bravo TV’s Tom Filicia’s Fall home collection Sedgwick + Brattle, USA. Elvia will be exhibiting with a former student Lauren Cardenas from Southwestern University in a Professor/Student exhibit 9th annual TAPPED exhibition at Manifest Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio in December. Caprice Pierucci was featured in an article, “Carving a Niche”, By Tate Gunnerson, Luxe Interiors and Design , Austin/San Antonio, September/October 2018. Caprice was also featured in an article, by Megan Kaplon, Austin Home , Fall 2018/ Volume 13/No. 3. Several of Caprice’s sculptures will be included in a group exhibition, Natural Occurrences at Walker Fine Art Gallery, Denver. Randall Reid , Caprice Pierucci and David Hefner will each have work in the Davis Gallery Group Exhibition, Negative Space/Darkness , December 15th through January 12th. Te Davis Gallery is in Austin at 837 W. 12th. Soomin Remmler’s drawing “Navarro street bridge 1910” was included in Galvanize , an exhibition celebrating Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center’s Art for Advocacy event, at NorthPark center in Dallas October 12th through November 7th. Te piece sold at the auction. On October 23, Gina McDaniel Tarver gave a guest lecture, titled “Palabras, acciones, cosas: Estrategias conceptualistas desde América Latina,” at the Pontifcia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile. On October 24, Gina gave a keynote presentation, titled “Intervenciones: Arte contemporáneo y la búsqueda de museos más inclusivos,” at the Seminario Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo, held at the Centro Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo in Cerrillos, Chile. STUDENT ACCOLADES MFA students – Nathaniel Haefner , Ti Nguyen , Stephanie Long and Flor Barajas – from the Data Visualization course and MiHyun Kim were invited to host a workshop during Austin Design week. Te workshop was titled "Understanding the City of Austin through Data Visualization" and it is was held at Capital Factory in Austin on November 7th. [ 2] Art History/ Photography major, Austen Villacis has been awarded the Fall 2018 Undergraduate Research Fellowship award in the amount of $1000.00 to support his research project titled Testing Te Limits (TTL) and Damned Interfering Video Activists (DIVA) Television: Revivals of the Lost AIDS Generation. SCHOOL ACCOLADES Te Faculty Exhibition on view at Texas State Galleries, was ranked #1 on Glasstire’s Top Five: October 3, 2018. DISTINGUISHEDFELLOW Sherry Snowden was ofcially inducted as a Distinguished Fellow of the Texas Art Education Association, awarded at the TAEA Conference on November 10th, in McAllen. [ 3] Sherry began teaching at Texas State University in January 2002, serving as a Lecturer in Art Education. She currently serves as Higher Education Division Chair for the Texas Art Education Association. She is a member of the National Art Education Association and a charter member of the Center for Educator Development in the Fine Arts.
