Te panel’s focus is on social and political issues surrounding migration, borders, natural environments, and the importance of transforming local communities through creative production. Sean Justice , MiHyun Kim , Alice Lee , and Jennifer Ling Datchuk will be participating in the Virtual 2020 Southwest Conference on Asian Studies with a round table discussion "Translating In-between experiences through art and design: Straddling two cultures and at times falling between them." MiHyun Kim’s project, "I Have a Dream" was included in 2020 KSBDA (Korea Society of Basic Design & Art) International Special Exhibition at Insa Art Center, Seoul, Korea. Te work is also published in the exhibition catalog. MiHyun was also invited to host a Remote Prototype Workshop for COVID Future Experience Design — Future Learning Challenge during the Austin Design Week. Alice J Lee and Design Inquiry installed a group exhibition through the FL3X Gallery titled, Currency Exchange [4] which was on view in the TXST Galleries foyer and on the lawn outside of J. C. Mitte through November 6. Alice J Lee presented her paper, Imperialism and Assimilation on the Korean Peninsula: Technology and Cultural Imperialism at the 49th South West Conference on Asian Studies. Alice spoke on the panel “Embrace Your Colors: Code-Switching While Working Remote During a Pandemic” presented by Personas Collective as part of Austin Design Week. Mark Menjivar was a Virtual Visiting Artist at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA. He led an online workshop for 450 San Antonio-area high school students. Tis workshop was the launch of a 3-month collaborative project with the CAST School Network that will culminate in an installation at the Doseum. Dr. Adetty Pérez de Miles is the frst Latina elected Co-president of the National Art Education Association (NAEA) Women’s Caucus (2020-2022), established in 1976. Te Women’s Caucus works to advance art education as an advocate of equity for women and all people who encounter injustice and works to eliminate discriminatory gender practices for individuals and groups, and for the concerns of women art educators and artists. Dr. Pérez de Miles is the frst Texas State faculty elected and inducted into Te Council for Policy Studies in Art Education (2020). Te Council for Policy Studies in Art Education formed more than thirty years ago to preserve the “intellectual vitality in the feld” of art education as envisioned by Elliott Eisner since the 1960s as a relatively small group of 50 distinguished North American scholars in the feld. Te council meets to examine and deliberate the large issues and questions in the feld of art education and its futures. Mark's solo exhibition Birds, Rats, Roses opened this month at Sala Diaz in San Antonio. He also has work in the exhibition Please Form A Straight Line which opened this month at Bluestar Contemporary in San Antonio. Elvia Perrin is exhibiting a print in the Tink Ink , group exhibition at the Koelsch Gallery in Houston. She will be an artist panel speaker and featured in Red Dot Artists' Conversation: Creating Abstract Forms along with Sara Cardona and Sarah Luna at the Women + Teir Work Gallery in Austin. Elvia will also be doing a virtual artist lecture in December for the Department of Art and Art History, University of Texas, Austin. Caprice Pierucci’s work will be featured in a group exhibition, Ripples, Rhythms, and Patterns at Walker Fine Art in Denver, Colorado. Laura Rathe's new River Oaks location opening group show, Dreamers will include the Pierucci piece "Grey Full Circle." Pierucci also just fnished a commission for the Google corporate collection in New York City. Soomin Remmler’s work [ 5 ] was featured in the group show Capirotada which was reviewed by Lauren Moya Ford from Sightlines magazine based in Austin. Soomin was featured and interviewed by Austin NewsKorea , weekly newspaper. Soomin served as a juror for an annual art competition held by Colored Pencil Magazine , and the winners will be announced in the November issue. Routledge released a frst paperback edition of Art Museums of Latin America: Structuring Representation (2018), co-edited by Gina McDaniel Tarver . [6] Dimitry Tetin recently gave a lecture about his work as part of Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) Graphic Design Fall Visiting Designers. Conversations with the Void highlights the depth and range of creative practice among students graduating in fall semester of 2020. Tis B.F.A. Tesis Exhibition speaks to the optimism and resilience of the students' arts practices but still anxious states of being. Individually, these works are the culmination of each student’s unique journey. Te COVID-19 pandemic has meant sending our words and our work out into virtual spaces—we can only hope that those ideas and wishes land somewhere, with someone, in the void.
