DIVISION ACCOLADES Opening Door Dance Theatre and Texas State Opera Theatre collaborated to present ReWritten , an exploration through artistic expression of this year's Common Experience theme Compassion. [3] Under the Artistic Direction of Marc Reynolds and LeAnne Smith with assistance from Cheryl Lindquist and Scott Vandenberg , ReWritten began with the work- in-progress of guest artists Matthew Cumbi and Tom Truss. Exploring the relationship between writers Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne; based on Melville’s letters written during the mid 1800s, the collaborators chose to illustrate the trajectory of love found and lost, and how one may, or may not, move toward healing. In addition, dance faculty Shay Hartung , Amanda McCorkle , and LeAnne Smith contributed choreography set on Texas State dance majors. Catherine Lee, internationally renowned artist generously donated the use of her sculpture, “Recluse 2” for the dance, "A Heart Unbound." Cheryl Lindquist, pianist, beautifully provided accompaniment for all musical offerings. She and Marc Reynolds worked tirelessly to create an evening that was a visual and aural feast. Special thanks to projection designer James Camp , costume designer Vanessa Vega , and Scott Vandenberg for his exquisitely rendered lighting design and technical direction. Michelle Nance , Director of the Division of Dance, was recently selected to receive an Everette Swinney Faculty Senate Excellence in Teaching Award.
