JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATION Advertising, Digital Media Innovation, Electronic Media , Mass Communication, Journalism, & Public Relations FACULTY ACCOLADES Robert Bajackson conducted a seminar session during the recent College Media Advisers convention. It was a virtual presentation with the topic being How To Create and the Importance of a Collegiate State Media Association. It was a 50-minute presentation featuring a step-by-step procedure. Examples for the presentation included the history of the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association's development along with the steps of rebuilding the Texas Community College Journalism Association. Dr. Nandini Bhalla published a co-authored article on SMEs and environmental CSR in a top-tier publication, Corporate Communication- an International Journal . Her first publication with Texas State affiliation. STUDENT ACCOLADES Graduate instructional assistant, Kelly Engram , coordinated this year's Step Up For State annual "days of giving" campaign, raising funds to purchase equipment for the new Live Oak Hall Film & TV Studio, expected to be operational by fall 2022. Current and former KTSW sports staff members Ethan Hamilton , Gage Sutton , and Deshaun Hartley received a 1st Place Award in the Best Audio, Sports Journalism and Mass Communication student, Genesis Lopez Journalism and Mass Communication student, Mireya Martinez-Soto Laura Krantz, director and faculty adviser of The University Star 14 | November & December | College News 1 2 3 category at the College Broadcasters Inc. National Student Production Awards on October 29, 2021. Each year, diverse students from the American Advertising Federation’s (AAF) 140+ college chapters apply to the Most Promising Multicultural Program for 50 positions. This year’s application pool was the highest on record and we had two students, Genesis Lopez [1] and Mireya Martinez-Soto [2] , selected to represent Texas State University during a four-day industry immersion program that includes professional development and personal branding workshops and a Recruiter’s Expo. As part of their submission, Genesis and Mireya provided personal taglines that not only represent them, but personify what it means to be a Bobcat. THE UNIVERSITY STAR College of Fine Arts and Communication | 15 Students at The University Star , directed by Laura Krantz [3] , received national recognition at the National College Media Convention and at the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards. Aidan Bea received Story of the Year Sports Feature First Place. The staff also received two Multimedia Story of the Year Honorable Mentions. The staff were also finalists for four College Media Association awards. Jaden Edison (pictured) and Bri Benitez won First Place for Online Multi-Media Breaking News Coverage. The staff received an honorable mention for Online Best Breaking News Coverage. In the design category, the staff won Second Place for Best Online Infographic. Leanne Castro received an Honorable Mention for Best General News Story. Of the five Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Region 8 winners that progressed to the national competition, two of them were named national finalists.
