THEATRE Acting, Musical Theatre, Per formance and Production, Teacher Certif ication in Theatre, Technical Production, & Theatre FACULTY ACCOLADES Ana Martinez’s article, "An interview with Mexican theatre company Teatro Línea de Sombra and their work during the pandemic, was just published in the journal Latin American Theatre Review . STUDENT ACCOLADES Jada Adams was elected Texas State University homecoming queen and won 1st place in the solo music category at the Texas State talent show. She is also a lead in spectrum theatre’s production of Crowns and was recently cast as a lead in a horror film that has world wide distribution. The fourth annual Broadway Backwards Cabaret opened with the Jeremy Torres Lab Theatre. The Cabaret was directed by Alex Aponte and Hailey Thomas . Kylie Gutierrez received the Undergraduate Research Fellowship of $1,000 to put on a production of Fefu and Her Friends by Maria Irene Fornes next semester. Kylie will be completing this as part of her Honors Thesis in collaboration with the Jeremy Torres Lab Theatre. Kylie has also been selected as a Penfold Apprentice for the 2022 spring semester. Mia Kaplan plays the lead role of Lenore in a new film called Empire Waist about celebrating self acceptance through inclusive fashion design and friendship. Ryan Scarlata , M.F.A. directing candidate class of 2022, served as assistant director to Tony nominated director/ choreographer Dan Knechtges on Houston’s Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) production of Sister Act . [1] The performances played to enthusiastic audiences November 2-14 in the beautiful 2,650 set Sarofim Hall at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Ryan has since been asked to return to TUTS to join the directing team for Disney's The Little Mermaid , which will perform through December 24. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Blair Baldwin and Bella Coppola (Musical Theatre alumni) performed live in concert in an event called The Night which was an evening of up and coming local NYC musicians at Arlene’s Grocery. Michaela Bolt (Musical Theatre alumni) opened Cinderella at the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, PA. Michaela is in the ensemble and the Cinderella Understudy through January 2nd. Stephen Brower (Musical Theatre alumni) started rehearsal for Once Upon a One More Time , [2] a new musical inspired by the music of Britney Spears. Stephen plays Prince Suave at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington D.C. Michael Burrell (Musical Theatre alumni) plays Gaston in Beauty and the Beast at the Olney Theatre Center through January 2nd. Bella Coppola (Musical Theatre alumni) performed at the Rockwood Concert Hall in New York City. John Fredrickson (Musical Theatre alumni) made his Off-Broadway debut in Mike and Mindy’s Wild Weekend Adventure . John plays the role of Peter through November 21st. Lexi Ganong (Musical Theatre alumni) will be touring in Cirque Dreams Holidaze as Kristy Claus, a Cirque de Soleil production. College of Fine Arts and Communication | 15 Yellow Inn by Kang-Baek Lee and translated by Dee Yoon Nahm opened to live audiences to a sold out house. The performance was directed by directing faculty member Yong- Suk Yoo and included many talented Texas State actors including: Marisa Mendoza , Anyae Reed , Ava Baker , Delan Crawford , Diego Huazano , Whit Flowers , Wallis Brown , Sarah Reese , Kat Adams , Parker Dial , Britain Stibora , Josh Vetter , Grace Stephens , Sarah Brookshire , Max Otremba , Eric Contreras , Henry Johnson , Alizzah Maravillas , Chance Friedman , Esther Oh , Meagan Majors , and Brandon Doan .
