ART AND DESIGN Art , Art Education, Art Histor y, Communication Design, Photography, & Studio Art 2 | November & December | College News FACULTY ACCOLADES Kathleen McShane Bolton’s group exhibition Artist Draw Their Studios was shown in the Kleinert Gallery, Woodstock, NY from October 9th – November 10th. Jennifer Ling Datchuk was named Ceramic Artist of the Year by the editorial staff of Ceramics Monthly magazine - the media specific magazine of her field. [1] Her solo exhibition Later, Longer, Fewer at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft was featured in Hyperalleric. She conducted M.F.A. graduate student critiques and public lectures at New Mexico State University and University of Arizona. Jennifer also gave a virtual lecture of her work to Metropolitan State University Denver, was a virtual visiting artist for the University of Florida, and did a public lecture, ceramics demonstration, and studio visits for M.F.A. graduates in Ceramics. Her piece "Gaze At All Sorts of Flowers" was new work commissioned by University of Southern California's Pacific Asia Museum. It was included in their 50th Anniversary exhibition Interventions: Fresh Perspectives on 50 Years and opened November 11. On October 22, Jonathan Faber participated in an artist talk with Nina Rizzo and Stephanie McMahon for the exhibition Hydroponics at Real Tinsel Gallery in Milwaukee, WI. Shannon Faseler is in the current exhibition at Austin Community College’s new gallery. The exhibition will be open the weekends of the West Austin Studio Tour. Tommy Fitzpatrick had one of his paintings in the Two x Two for AIDS and ART auction on October 23rd in Dallas at the Rachofsky House. The benefit is hosted by the Dallas Museum of Art. He has a solo show of twelve new paintings entitled Simulated Structures . The exhibition opened at Inman Gallery in Houston on November 20th and runs to January 8th. [2] Jennifer Ling Datchuk, Ceramics Monthly magazine's Ceramic Artist of the Year Work featured in Tommy Fitzpatrick's exhibition, Simulated Structures Estéban Hinojosa and Introduction to Fine Arts students at the Blanton Museum of Art 1 2 3 Estéban Hinojosa led Introduction to Fine Arts students on a field trip to the Blanton Museum of Art to discuss Renaissance and Baroque Painting. [3] Sarah Hirneisen's two-person exhibition opened on December 3rd at ICOSA Collective. Worn, Torn, Cut & Calloused , an exhibition of new works by Jonas Criscoe and Sarah Hirneisen explores the aesthetics of detritus and decay through the lens of surface, form, material, and composition. Alice J Lee’s solo exhibition, Between Two , is on view at the Biggin Gallery of Auburn University until January 21, 2022. While in Auburn, she presented her research into the Korean alphabet and led a Korean language workshop at the King Sejong Institute. Jeffrey Lieber gave a talk on the virtual panel "Making Houston Modern: The Life and Architecture of Howard Barnstone," sponsored by the Dallas Architecture Forum in collaboration with Preservation Dallas (October 14). Lieber’s review essay about Barnstone appeared in the May/June 2021 issue of Texas Architect . He also gave a lecture titled, “The Passions of Philip Johnson,” as part of Glass House Presents, the public lecture series curated by Cole Akers for the Philip Johnson Glass House. Mark Menjivar launched Security Questions, a Glasstire Virtual Artist-in-Residence Project. The project is comprised of a website that accepts and displays user responses to a long list of online security questions. Elvia Perrin will be exhibiting “Tilt” in Printwork 2021 , juried by Joseph Lupo, at the Artist Image Resource, Pittsburgh, opening December 10. Elvia recently gave an artist lecture “The Art of Entrepreneurship” via zoom at Arkansas State University. Soomin Remmler is participating in the annual Red Dot Show at Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum, October 7, 2021 – January 9, 2022. Soomin is also participating in Southwest School of Art’s The Nature of Art Gala and Art Sale, October 5th - November 3rd. Genaro Solis Rivero will be featured in the Graphis Journal #371 Education Section. Omari Souza presented a talk at Atlanta's Design Week Festival on October 8. The lecture was titled "Design and the Black Image." Omari recently gave a guest lecture to RGD Design Thinkers of Canada. Also, on November 5, he spoke at the international IVLA Conference on "Afro Lunar Aesthetic." Molly Sherman’s book design for DLP: Wall was selected for the Communication Arts Typography Annual 12. Gina Tarver participated on the panel State of the Field: Feminism in Latin American and Latinx Art History Today at the annual conference of the Association for the Study of the Arts of the Present. Ana Trevino was part of a collaborative exhibition, for the Austin Studio Tour, with two artists called Papaya that included video and performative elements. SCHOOL ACCOLADES Texas State Galleries won Most Innovative Program in the 2021 Institutional Inclusive Excellence Showcase for its presentation of the Undocumented Migration Project's Hostile Terrain 94. Texas State Galleries raised over $3,000 during Step Up For State with the help of Bethany Johnson , Sean Justice , and Sterling Allen . Erina Duganne received a $50,000 grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation to work on her book Visual Solidarities: Art, Activism, and Central America . $50,000 GRANT College of Fine Arts and Communication | 3
