14 | November & December | College News MUSIC Music, Music Studies, Per formance, & Sound Recording Technolog y FACULTY ACCOLADES Oboist Ian Davidson appeared as featured soloist in a concert with the New York Kammermusiker in a performance at the Jewish Community Center in New York. On the program were North American premieres by Brazilian composers Harold Emert, Eduardo Camenietzki, Sigismund Neukomm, Lenir Siqueira, and Ricardo Szpilman. This performance also marks the premiere of Davidson’s latest composition, Carioca for Solo Oboe . In addition to the solo works, Davidson joined the ensemble—comprised of double-reed players who are emeritus members of the US Marine Band, New York Philharmonic, New York City Opera Orchestra, Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the Orchestra of the Metropolitan Opera—for a performance of ceremonial music from the French Courts. [1] Award-winning jazz composer and performer Hank Hehm- soth has been honored with a grant from the Aaron Cop- land Fund for Music, recognizing his groundbreaking work in jazz and contemporary music. The award will support Hehmsoth’s ongoing musical innovation with the Double Vision Jazz Ensemble, a group he co-leads with legendary saxophonist John Mills. “This grant is a tremendous honor, reflecting our commitment to pushing jazz boundaries while celebrating the rich traditions of American music,” said Hehmsoth. “With this support, Double Vision will continue to expand the jazz repertoire, create new works, and inspire the next generation of musicians.” The grant will fund a series of live performances, the creation of new composi- tions and educational initiatives, including masterclasses and workshops at TXST. Hehmsoth’s work blends jazz with contemporary art music and world influences, earning him accolades as a dynamic force in the jazz world. View News- room Article here. [2] Raúl Rodríguez was invited to present a topic on applied music pedagogy entitled “Becoming a Musical Avatar” published online as an asynchronous poster which included the presentation of a “lightning talk” on the same topic for the 67th National College of Music Society Conference in Washington, D.C., on November 9, 2024.
