Sullivan , Director and Professor of Musicology, was elected to a second consecutive three- year term on the National Association of Schools of Music Commission on Accreditation. STUDENT ACCOLADES Elma Garcia and Sophia Gonzalez made the finals of the 28th Annual Mariachi Extravaganza National Vocal Competition. Elma Garcia won first place in the College Division. The TXST Mysterium for New Music Ensemble was recently invited to performed for the third year in a row at the 2022 Classic Game Fest in Austin. The Classic Game Fest is considered “the biggest retro gaming event in Texas,” with an estimated attendance this year of over 15,000. The ensemble performed music from several well-known video games including Sonic, Undertale, Zelda, Castelvania, Star Fox, and Donkey Country as well as several structured improvisations and original works. All pieces were arranged by current students and alumni of the ensemble. Members of the ensemble were graduate student Stephan Arce-Penedo , alumni Adam Koch (MM, 2022), Thomas Torres (MM, 2022), Andi Ivins (MM, 2021), Wesley S. Uchiyama-Penix (MM, 2020), and guest Andrew Coldwell. The Mysterium ensemble is under the direction of Richard D. Hall, Senior Lecturer of Music . Ernesto A. Saldana received the Tu Música Scholarship from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), which benefits undergraduate and graduate students of Latin descent who are looking to pursue a songwriting or performance career in Latin Music. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Krystyn Jensen Fleischauer received the Texas State Staff Council’s 2022 Dr. Lawrence Estaville Employee Excellence Award, which honors a staff member whose actions, deeds, and work ethic over the previous year exemplifies overall excellence in service to Texas State University. It is named in honor of Dr. Lawrence Estaville for his generous contributions and advocacy for Texas State Staff. This annual award provides $300 to a staff member whose actions, deeds and work ethic over the previous year exemplifies overall excellence in service to Texas State University. Superior work ethic and commitment to job performance is the basis for this award. Krystyn Jenson Fleischauer graduated from the TXST School of Music in Spring 2007 with a BA in Music and a minor in Psychology. She proudly served the School of Music for nineteen years as a student worker, then in all three administrative assistant level positions, culminating in the appointment as Administrative Assistant III and Recruitment Coordinator. She now serves as Coordinator of Academic Success Initiatives for University College (June 2022). Peyton Grover and the San Marcos High School Rattler Marching Band received a glowing write up in the San Marcos Daily Record. [6] Ryan Harris is a new niddle school band director for Prairiland ISD who also assists at Prairiland High School, whose marching band received straight 1's at UIL and advanced to the area level competition.
