THEATRE Acting, Musical Theatre, Per formance and Production, Teacher Certif ication in Theatre, Technical Production, & Theatre FACULTY ACCOLADES Deb Alley , after nearly 10 years at Texas State is retiring. Deb was chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance from 2015-2020, during which they created a film program and had a 54% increase in enrollment. [1] Kate Glasheen recently served as vocal coach for the Zach Theater's production of The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity , dialect coach for Austin Shakespeare's Sense and Sensibility, and dialect coach for Betrayal at Falcon Theater in Newport, KY. Faculty member Eugene Lee joins the cast of the national tour of the recent Broadway revival of, A Soldier’s Play by Charles Fuller. Eugene was in the original cast of the Pulitzer Prize winning production by the Negro Ensemble Company over forty years ago in New York and now steps into the boots of Sergeant Vernon C. Waters, the role originated by Adolph Caesar. The national tour will hit theaters in cities across the country starting on the East coast in New Haven, then to Philadelphia, Washington D.C. (Kennedy Center), Charlotte, Chicago, and Atlanta, finishing up out West in LA at the Ahmanson in the spring. [2] Bryan Poyser's short film Don't You Go Nowhere won the Best Narrative Short Award at the Lone Star Film Festival in Fort Worth and at the Austin Film Festival, it won the Texas Short Filmmaker Award, which includes a $3,000 equipment grant from Austin Movie Gear. The film also played on PBS stations all across Texas in November as part of KERA's Frame of Mind short film screening series. [3] Caitlin Turnage was selected for the inaugural SoTex playwrights lab with the Public Theatre of San Antonio where she will workshop her play Warmth over the course of eight months culminating in a public reading with the theatre. Deb Alley, former chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance is retiring after a tremendous 9.5 years.
