STUDENT ACCOLADES Julia Cabrera (4th Year BFA) has been awarded fellowship with the USITT Gateway Program. A unique, customizable mentorship program that fosters opportunities for those who identify with an underrepresented population. It allows an individual to work with a mentor to tailor their learning goals and career development while attending the upcoming Spring of 2023 USITT conference with the financial support from USITT. In addition, it offers a vast network of industry professionals for mentees to learn and engage with during their time at USITT and beyond. Andrew Stoner (Junior/Transfer Theatre Major) was seen as Sgt. Charles Vincent in a production of Dear Ruth at the Boerne Community Theatre in Boerne. Jenifer Gonzalez (2nd Year MFA) has been awarded the Sherry Wagner-Henry Board Fellowship. She is one of two students that are accepted every year for this fellowship. The Sherry Wagner-Henry Board Fellowship is 12-18-months long, with particular emphasis on finding the future leaders of USITT and investing in their growth. This opportunity serves as a bridge to connect emerging professionals with current leaders in the theatre and entertainment industry, as well as an opportunity to learn new skills that will help the fellow develop valuable expertise on their journey to nonprofit leadership. The student led production house at Texas State: The Jeremy Torres Lab Theatre led by Insha Iqbal and Elena Heine produced a fall season of incredibly successful shows featuring: Pop Rock Cabaret, Twilight of the Golds directed by Andrew Michael Carter and Sophia Jovanovic, Daisies in the Ruin written by Mkayla Edwards and directed by Bailey Collier , Broadway Backwards Cabaret directed by Emiliano Morales and Hailey Thomas, I Spoke with Death devised by Valentine Pena , Madison Rivas , Miranda Treveno Grauzas, Bottled Up a devised piece by faculty member Linda Nenno Breining’s Contemporary Theatre Workshop class, and the James W.Price Ten Minute Play Festival featuring directing advisors Insha Iqbal and Sara Scheidt , literary managers Abigail Thompson, Claudia Fernandez Lopez, and Raven Wise , directors Brady Hill , Isabella Young , Jasmine Aurelio , Omarion Reed , Brooklyn Poutra , MJ Kelly , and Kylie Jowers , and featured playwrights Jazz Neal , Laura Quinones, College of Fine Arts and Communica College of Fine Arts and Communication | 19 S.A. Ellis , Lauren Mazoch , Rheagan Higgins , Shelby Seelhammer , and Abigail Thompson. The James W Price festival played on November 21st and featured talented bobcat actors: Abby Rose , Jazzton Thomas , Hannah Humphrey , Eric Navarro , Evyen Castillo , Alissa DeAnda , Will Coronado , Eric Navarro , Erika Lunkwitz , Billie Guffey , Val Garriga , Jake Olds , Stephanie Wilson , Mina Herrera , and Miguel Gaytan . The festival had a live competition element and best actor went to Will Coronado , best director went to MJ Kelly , Audience Choice award for best play went to The Day Fiona Flapped her Wings by Abigail Thompson , and the Critics choice award for best play went to The Butterfly Effect by Shelby Seelhammer . Texas State’s Theatre Department produced Into The Woods directed and choreographed by Stacy Hawking with music direction by faculty member Aimee Radics in late November.
