Association (NAEA) News fall 2022 issue. The column highlights examples of sounding art practices and methods derived from her dissertation, “Pedagogy of Sounding: Tuning in Art Education (2021).” Dr. Nott led a professional development workshop in Del Valle Independent School District where she introduced the Sounding Art Curriculum for K-12 Art Education teachers. Dr. Adetty Pérez de Miles’s recently published book, Teaching and Assessing Social Justice Art Education: Power, Politics, and Possibilities (2022) is grounded in decolonial and feminist theories and focused on socially engaged art practices. The author raises questions such as: How and why does art play a significant role in social justice work? What is social justice education, and why is social justice necessary to a democracy? How might we embody and assess social justice curriculum and pedagogy for its art and educational impact? The book’s coauthors are Karen Keifer-Boyd, Wanda B. Knight, Cheri E. Ehrlich, Yen-Ju Lin, and Ann Holt. Adetty presented research on art as decolonial action(s) at the Art Education Research Institute (AERI) Symposium at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia. Beverly Penn’s work " Abanico" was acquired by the permanent collection of the Yale University Art Gallery and will be part of an exhibition in the main galleries through December 2022. Beverly Penn: Foregrounding (San Antonio: French and Michigan, 2023” with funding from the Tiffany Foundation Borderland Collective’s new monograph, Otherwise, It Would Be Just Another River: Ten Years of Borderland Collective’s Practice in Collaboration and Dialogue was released by German publisher Spector Books with a launch at the New York Art Book Fair. The book was edited by Jason Reed and Molly Sherman , designed by Molly , and includes work and essays by Mark Menjivar, Erina Duganne , and Adetty Pérez de Miles. The book will be distributed globally by Spector and shared at Paris, Tokyo, and Frankfurt book fairs this fall. Claudia Roeschmann was invited to present her cross disciplinary international research project called “Global Innovation Challenge” at the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Annual Conference in Dallas. She also co-presented with Dr. Peter Tschirhart on the community engaged Stelos program titled “Data by Design.” Jennifer Stob presented the paper "Chronic Caring" on Agnès Varda's experimental short film, 7 P., Cuis. S. de b… (à saisir) (1984) at the international research symposium, Reframing Varda, held September 1-2 at the Humanities Research Centre, University of York, Great Britain. M. Wright served as an external tenure reviewer for the Graphic Design department at Virginia Commonwealth University. She joined the Design Justice Network as a signatory member, as part of the Vancouver Design Justice Network Node. She also gave a public invited lecture on graphic design and social justice at University of the Arts London, Camberwell-Chelsea-Wimbledon Colleges, and conducted a workshop with 2nd-year graphic design students, September 15–16.
