Faculty Accolades Monica Alfonso had a solo show in South Carolina this summer, and was included in a juried show in Wisconsin for which she won an award. Shawn Camp has several paintings in “Five Decades,” a group show at Gallery Shoal Creek in Austin, opening on September 18. Shawn is curating a show called “Almost Nothing,” which opens at Northern- Southern Gallery in Austin on September 26. He has also been commissioned by Jackson Walker LLP to create a large-scale painting for their office in Dallas. The new issue of Public Art Review magazine’s On Location section features a spread on Roger Colombik’s Burma Project (Issue #52, pages 75-78). For more info on Public Art Review and Forecast Public Art: http://forecastpublicart.org/ Teri Evans-Palmer presented a session entitled, “Effective Tools for Diverse Community Engagement in the Museum.” The refereed presentation introduced strategies that help youth of diverse groups make meaningful connections with works of art. Art education provides critical tools to enhance young adult’s capability to interpret visual images, self-reflect, and understand ways of being. The United States Society for Education Through Art, an organization endorsed by the International Society for Education Through Art (InSEA), held its 2015 conference: An Inclusive World: Bridging Communities at the Queen’s Museum in Queens, New York on July 17-19. Joey Fauerso currently has work in the exhibition “Narrative Axis” at Blue Star Contemporary Museum of Art which runs through November 8th. She will also be exhibiting her artist’s book Dog Hospital at the Printed Matter Art Book Fair at PS1 in New York. There will be an opening ceremony on October 4th to celebrate the opening of Yanaguana Garden in downtown San Antonio which includes Fauerso’s public sculpture “Sky Camp”. Brian Johnson will have work in the upcoming exhibit “Almost Nothing” at the Northern-Southern Gallery in Austin. The show was curated by Shawn ART & DESIGN Camp and will open next Saturday, September 26th from 6-10pm. Two of Brian’s prints will be included in the Georgertown Art Center’s national juried exhibit opening October 4th. Lynwood Kreneck, Professor Emeritus at Texas Tech University was the printmaking juror. Jessica Mallios will have her recent book entitled Local Time through The Center for Ongoing Research & Projects at Printed Matter’s NY Art Book Fair held at MOMA/PS1 during the weekend of September 18th-20th, 2015. The project is part of his on-going project exploring capital punishment in Texas and will be installed for one year. Elvia Perrin is working with a New York-based shop TRNK, selling her original prints. Her “Striation” prints are featured in the movie Sleeping with other People , and her “Vault” print will be featured on the set of Netflix’s show Frankie + Grace , Season 2. Elvia and Adrienne Butler will have work included in the upcoming Flatbed Press Reunion Exhibition, October 23 - December 19. Opening Reception: November 14, 6-8pm. Caprice Pierucci’s solo exhibition, “Rhythm and Form” is on view at Callan Contemporary Gallery, New Orleans, from August 1 through September 25. Perry Steakhouse restaurants has licensed the right to print one of Burton Pritzker’s images at 78 x 111 inches to be hung in dining areas in Birmingham, Alabama, and in Dallas. “Steer #7,” from Burt’s “Texas Rangeland Series” also is included in the Wittliff Collections Current Exhibit: “Animals Among Us: Photographs from the Permanent Collection.” Liz Rodda will be presenting a new video as a part of Luminaria, a public art festival in San Antonio. The exhibition will run on Friday, October 23rd and Saturday, October 24th. Sherry Snowden’s presentation, “Prioritizing the A in STEAM: Making Art to Matter Most,” was accepted for inclusion in the program for the 2016 NAEA National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, March 17-19. Gina Tarver has been invited to present a lecture as part of the “Latin American Art & Culture Colloquium (A Lecture Series)” at The University of Texas, San Antonio. She will present “Natural (and Unnatural) History in Contemporary Colombian Art” at 11:30 am on Wednesday, October 14. For more information on the series, go to http://art.utsa. edu/LAACC. Two of Barry Underhill’s prints were acquired in August by the Smithsonian Institution. The images will represent a permanent collection at the Smithsonian’s new National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., which is set to open in 2016. Maia Wright’s collaborative book project with artist Kate Jarboe, The George W. Bush Museum exhibition catalog, was recently selected for distribution by Printed Matter, New York City. Maia’s work will be shown in a group exhibition at Crane Gallery in Philadelphia, October 8-16, as part of the 11th annual DesignPhiladelphia week. This project is a DesignInquiry collaboration with designers from CalArts, NC State University, and the Maine College of Art, coordinated by Peter Hall.
