C3 The Center for Communication, Collaboration & Creativit y (C3) UPCOMING FULBRIGHT PROGRAM PRESENTATION The university offers exceptional support to faculty who become Fulbrighters. Many faculty avoid pursuing their Fulbright goals because they are unaware of the short-term options available. Dr. Teri Evans-Palmer (Art&Design) recently began her path towards becoming a Fulbrighter by applying for and being accepted to the Fulbright Specialist Roster. This first step makes faculty eligible for representatives from foreign countries to invite them to teach or research in that country for 2-6 weeks. Other options may be available for multiple countries or longer stays. Selected faculty gain travel and housing expenses paid, plus a daily living allowance and other benefits. Fine Arts & Communication faculty, including non-tenure track faculty, interested in learning more about becoming a Fulbright Scholar or Fulbright Senior Specialist are invited to attend a workshop organized by C3: “Why Aren’t You a Fulbrighter?” presented by Fulbright Scholar, Daris Hale (Music), November 16th from 1-2 p.m. in Comal 116. SILHAVY AND BAER AWARDED $5K Vlasta Silhavy (Theatre) and Ana Baer (Dance) were awarded $5,000 from the City of San Marcos Commission on Youth and Children as part of a new annual Youth Master Plan Funding. The funds will support LEAP: a Leadership, Empowerment and Arts Program. This new summer camp and mentoring program for at-risk girls ages 13-18 years old will study how the arts and mentoring can improve outcomes for these girls. Silhavy and Baer originated the idea during CoSearch 2015, and have spent the past year developing the project and applying for funding with guidance from their collaborators and C3.
