COMMUNICATION STUDIES Communication Studies, Health Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Leadership Studies, Organizational Communication, Persuasive Communication, Political Communication, & Teacher Certif ication in Communication Studies FACULTY ACCOLADES Michael Burns was recognized with a Texas State Student Foundation Award. He was one of ten faculty/ staff honored at the Annual Foundations of Excellence Awards Banquet in October. He was also the keynote speaker at the Texas State University Academic Advising Conference in September, presenting the topic of connecting with students who are digital natives. Stephanie Dailey co-authored “What we are talking about when we talk about social media: A framework for study,” published in the journal Sociology Compass . She and two co-authors also published “What is your fitness tracker communicating?: Exploring messages and effects of wearable fitness devices” in Qualitative Research Reports . Sean Horan was chosen as the 2016-2017 Presidential Seminar Award recipient, recognizing his superlative research, scholarship, and current contributions to the discipline. Sean also delivered presentations on organizational and classroom justice at the Academic Advisors’ Conference. Maureen Keeley [ 1 ] was awarded the 2015 Article of the Year in the Journal of Family Communication for her co-authored article, “When family talk is difficult: Making sense of nonverbal communication at the end-of-life.” Maureen was also recognized by 1 2 3 Maureen Keeley, Professor and Director of Graduate Studies Kelly Clancy’s book entitled Cultural Politics of Genetically Modified Organisms in the United States and Europe Maddie Rich, Stewardship Coordinator for Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin. 6 | October | College News
