8 | October | College News C3 The Center for Communication, Collaboration & Creativit y (C3) $75K FROM KNIGHT FOUNDATION Dr. Cindy Royal (Mass Comm) was awarded $75,000 from the Knight Foundation for her Ph.Digital Bootcamp project that seeks to provide innovative digital training to mass communication doctoral students. Specifically, the hybrid, online/in-person training program, will aim to drive curriculum innovation, better prepare students for open faculty positions, and influence university strategic planning to instruct journalism students for the emerging requirements of the digital profession. The digital training will develop skills in the areas of web development, data journalism, analytics, social media, mobile reporting, 360 video/virtual reality, drones and more. $3K FROM SAN MARCOS ARTS COMMISSION MiHyun Kim was awarded $3,000 from the San Marcos Arts Commission for her Mermaid Tales project that will provide a San Marcos history/culture workshop during the day and a unique and interactive Spatial Augmented Reality (SAR) installation during the night at Eddie Durham Park in conjunction with the next Mermaid Festival. Long term, Kim plans to create an informative and interactive mobile app that allows both local and visiting users to learn more about the unique history and culture of San Marcos by visiting several of the mermaid statues that are set to be placed around the community in the coming months. College of Fine Arts and Communication | 9 $3K FROM SAN MARCOS ARTS COMMISSION Dr. Jason Kwak was awarded $3,000 from the San Marcos Arts Commission for the 9th Texas State International Piano Festival (pictured). The festival is an intensive one-week summer residency for aspiring young pianist worldwide to study with a stellar array of faculty. During the festival, world renowned guest artists and faculty provide master classes and recitals that develop the advanced skills and techniques of the talented participants.
