Ana Baer’s screendance Wild-er-ness (a collaboration with Faculty Artist Michelle Nance , Richard D. Hall and Heike Salzer), will be screened at flm festivals in Campinas, Brazil; San Sebastian, Bilbao and Pamplona, Spain; Hilversum, Netherlands; Bogota, Colombia; Guadalajara, Oaxaca and CDMX, Mexico; Additionally, it will be presented as a site-specifc installation at the Teorist Festival in Austin with live music by Richard D. Hall . On September 28, she flmed new work with Merge and Body Shift at the Austin Public Library. Ana Baer’s piece "WECreate Spaces" (a collaboration with Faculty Artist Michelle Nance , Rocio Luna, Heike Salzer and Joaquin Lopez Chas) will be screened at Opening Door Dance Teatre at Evans Auditorium, Oct 17-19. [ 1 ] Misti Galvan was selected to teach "Object Investigation as Somatic Practice" at the 11th Annual Texas Dance Improvisation Festival, scheduled October 17-19. Galvan's belief that we are never really alone and that anything can be a partner, inspires the design of this workshop, where participants will move with selected objects that focus on opposites: natural/ artifcial, soft/hard, and light/heavy to help discover more about the relationship to one's body and self, as well as the surrounding environment. [ 2 ] Michelle Nance premiered a new duet entitled “to- MAY-to/to-MAH-to” at the Opening Door Dance Concert as part of the Common Experience. Te piece included live music by Richard Hall , lighting by Scott Vandenburg, and video by Ana Baer . Returning for his third time, Scott Vandenberg traveled to Port of Spain, Trinidad as the Resident Lighting Designer for the COCO Dance Festival. [ 3] Tis year, the festival contained works from Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago and the United States, including pieces choreographed by Alumni Lilly Turman (B.F.A. 2019) and current student Tate Navarro . Nicole Wesley was commissioned to set contemporary work on Pivotal Academy of Dance’s pre-professional dance company in Buda. She is currently working on the BFA Concert at Evans in November. Nicole is technical director for the 2019 COCO Dance Festival. Tis is the 11th year of the festival. Nicole Wesley’s dance studio, Wimberley Dance Elite, was written up in the local Wimberley View paper and she represented the Texas State University Dance Division at Jacob Well Elementary School’s Career Day. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Alumni Alexandra Roumanis is presenting her site- specifc performance: "retitled: sophomore slump" with live music composed by Trevor Lew Ridge at the Teorist Festival, Austin on October 25 - 26. DIVISION ACCOLADES WellnessDance is a new and innovative intergenerational research program specifcally focused on the interaction between undergraduate college students and mature persons to interact and enjoy dancing together. Te proposed pilot study is crucial for the refnement of a research whose goal will be to determine efects of an intergenerational WellnessDance program on the empathy and well-being of older participants and younger college students training in dance. Tis study is conducted in collaboration between Dr. Eunhae (Grace) Kim, Dr. Kyong Hee Chee, Professor Ana Baer , Misti Galvan , and Texas State University, along with the Allen Woods/ Stone Brooks living centers. Dance majors that will be participating or student teaching are: Leann Bernal , Eliza Castillo , Kaytlyn Collier , and Rachel Stevens . WECREATE PRODUCTIONS WECreate Productions is the transcontinental company of screendance artists Ana Baer Carrillo (Professor of Dance at Texas State University) and Heike Salzer (Senior Lecturer in Dance Professional Practice at the University of Roehampton). Together, they founded the screendance company WECreate in 2014, producing collaboratively site-specifc screendances, inspired by their travels to extreme landscapes. Teir work has been shown in the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Portugal, and the United States. Committed to exploring the possibilities of digital technology in service of collaborative art creation, they produce site-specifc interdisciplinary works inspired by their shared fascination of extreme landscapes, place and narratives of sites. Teir screendances, performances and installations have been invited to festivals and venues in Mexico, Brazil, Iran, Greece, France, United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain and Italy.
