COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS AND COMMUNICATION OCTOBER ISSUE | FAL L 2020 LETTER FROM THE DEAN DR. JOHN FLEMING Despite the ongoing pandemic, faculty, staf, students and alumni of the College of Fine Arts and Communication continue to earn accolades nationally and internationally. Most notably, our Dance Division was ranked as the #2 undergraduate program in the country by College Factual (p.11). Exemplifying the quality and diversity of dance's oferings, they exhibited work in Morelia, Puebla, Mexico City, and New York City, while also publishing articles and hosting the Artistic Director of Giordano Dance Chicago (pp.10-11). Art and Design faculty had their work exhibited in Austin, San Antonio, Cambridge (MA), Urbana-Champaign, U. of Mississippi, as well as in Austria and Italy (pp.2-3). Communication Studies faculty published research in seven of their feld’s top journals, with Elizabeth Eger winning the 2020 Best Article Award from the National Communication Association (pp.6-7). In Journalism and Mass Communication, Kym Fox won the Society of Professional Journalists President’s Award (p.12), while KTSW students are fnalists in four categories for the College Broadcasters, Inc. National Student Production Awards (p.13). In addition, Cindy Royal’s Knight Foundation PhDigital Bootcamp grant was extended (p.9). Led by Nico Schüler, Music faculty have partnered with Johannes Guttenberg University in Mainz, Germany to develop virtual collaborations (p.15); stateside, Lynn Brinckmeyer has presented multiple webinars, clinics, and virtual workshops for national audiences (p.14). In Teatre, Eugene Lee was honored by the Fort Worth chapter of the NAACP, while Betty Buckley was featured in Texas Monthly (p.16). Teatre students are engaged in the industry via work with choreographer Christian Warner, a competition with the Teatrical Sound Designers and Composers Association, and a project with the United States Institute of Teatre technology (p.17) Also, congratulations to Gloria Campos Brown on being named a Texas State University Distinguished Alumnus (p.13) and Kuro Tawil for being named a Young Alumni Rising Star Award recipient (p.7) My gratitude and congratulations to all!
