Mark Menjivar spoke on the panel, Texas Prisons and Post WWII Civil Rights, hosted by the Center for the Study of the Southwest here at Texas State University. Other panelists included Dr. Robert Chase, a historian of prisons, policing, and punishment, and Mr. Ernest McMillan, a veteran human rights activist. Mark spoke on the panel, Interchange: Social Practice in Conversation, along with artists Chloe Bass, Xochitl Rodriguez and Crystal Z. Campbell. Mark was a visiting artist at the Krannert Art Museum in Urbana- Champaign, IL. Elvia Perrin gave a virtual artist talk on September 25th for the Printmaking Art Department at Te University of Mississippi. Soomin Remmler was invited to be a part of a virtual lecture series called San Antonio River through eyes of artists organized by San Antonio River Authority in September. They also purchased the work created during the demonstration and included it in a private collection. Soomin Remmler is in a curated group (5 artists) exhibition at Gray Duck Gallery in Austin that runs October 2 through November 1. Soomin Remmler was in the 30th Annual Red Dot at Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum and Gallery in San Antonio that was held from September 23 - October 4. Liz Rodda's video work was included in Hot Steam III (originally scheduled for exhibition at the MIT Museum) and was screened at Starlight Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts on September 29 and Cambridge Community Television's Channel 8. Claudia Roeschmann was invited as a speaker on September 13 to this year’s virtual Global Round Up: the annual gathering of the powerful 3 Day Startup community of tens of thousands of entrepreneurs and investors across six continents. 3 Day Startup’s mission is to activate entrepreneurial potential in students of all kinds through experiential education and a global entrepreneurship ecosystem. Omari Souza organized and hosted “Te State of Black Design” on September 18. Tis web event sold 3,616 tickets, second highest number ever for the Common Experience, and netted 2,071 live views. Excluding commencement ceremonies, the number of live views exceeded any other Texas State online academic event. Te average watch time for this 2-hour event with four panel sessions was 43:02. Tere have been 2,767 overall views to date, making it the fourth largest Common Experience event ever. SCHOOL ACCOLADES Stuart Hyatt's Glen Rose Formation [ 3] (Texas State Galleries, February 5–March 9, 2018), got a shout-out in Tony Rehagen's "Stuart Hyatt Is On A Diferent Wavelength, " within the Indianapolis Monthly (August 30, 2020 issue). For the Glen Rose Formation project, commissioned by the Texas State Galleries, Hyatt traveled throughout the region and into the hill country, and inspired by its geologic features, ultimately ended up deep underground in the Cave Without a Name in Boerne, TX. When exploring the Cave Without a Name, Hyatt was taken by the acoustic properties of the space, and brought together a team of audio engineers to determine the resonant bass frequencies in the cave. Tese frequencies form the musical foundation of the album’s compositions. Visit the Texas State Galleries website for a fashback of the project here at Texas State. TEACHING WITH HUMOR Teri Evans-Palmer presented her paper, "Te Art of Teaching with Humor,” at the 12th annual International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies, (Edulearn20, International Academy of Technology, Education and Development); Mallorca, Spain.
