Ann and co- author Wayne Kraemer published “Hispanic politicians on the rise: Argumentation strategies of Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio” in the book Networking Argument . Michael Burns was chosen to give a keynote address at the 6th annual Teaching and Learning Conference hosted by Ashford University. His presentation will focus on Career Readiness, specifcally highlighting the Communication Studies Career Readiness program he created. Michael also led three virtual workshops for all of Texas State's frst-year student athletes focusing on classroom etiquette and engagement. Stephanie Dailey published "Sports experiences as anticipatory socialization: How does communication in sports help individuals with intellectual disabilities learn about and adapt to work?" in Communication Quarterly . Focused on the sports and work experiences of individuals with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics athletes illuminated how sports communication socialized individuals by helping athletes learn valuable skills used at work, adapt to various job duties, and develop confdent work identities. Te data for this article were collected by Dr. Dailey’s graduate Qualitative Research Methods course. Elizabeth K. Eger will receive the 2020 Best Article Award from the National Communication Association's Ethnography Division for “Pushing beyond positionalities and through “failures” in qualitative organizational communication: Experiences and lessons on identities in ethnographic praxis.” Te article was published in Management Communication Quarterly . ALUMNI ACCOLADES Jorlanditha Austin (M.A., 2019) had "Civilian to household 6: Finding identity, support, and self-efcacy as a military spouse" accepted as a poster presentation at the 8th Annual Black Doctoral Network Conference. Jorlanditha is currently a doctoral student at Rutgers University. She also presented "Considering andragogy tactics when infusing diversity into the classroom" to the African American Communication and Culture #ScholarStrike Conference in September. Tianna Cobb (M.A., 2017) presented "Te toll that racism plays on mental health" to the African American Communication and Culture #ScholarStrike Conference YOUNG ALUMNI RISING STAR Kuro Tawil (B.A., 2012) was named one of three “Young Alumni Rising Stars” for 2020 by Texas State. In 2013, he founded KUROS, a social enterprise that provides free pepper spray and training to women who face a high risk of violence and sexual assault. KUROS has helped to protect tens of thousands of women and at-risk populations worldwide by securing licensing deals with numerous companies to help support the mission.
