[1] Sarah Maines will be designing the lighting for the return of ZACH Teatre’s A Christmas Carol: A Rockin’ Musical after a year hiatus from this annual holiday event. Dr. Ana Martínez's book Performance in the Zócalo: Constructing History, Race, and Identity in Mexico's Central Square from the Colonial Era to the Present (University of Michigan Press) was selected as one out of six fnalists for the Teatre Library Association's 2020 George Freedley Memorial Award. [2] Playwriting faculty member Caitlin Turnage’s pilot Volant was named a semifnalist for ScreenCraft Drama Screenplay Competition. Te pilot covers the life of Catherine de Medici and her fying squadron. Yong-Suk Yoo was among a team of collaborators who received the 2021 CoSearch competition Grand Prize for their proposal, Familia First: creating an immersive VR experience integrating theatrical storytelling method with VR technology for type II diabetes education for Hispanic families. [3] STUDENT ACCOLADES Senior Performance and Production major, Kylie Gutierrez , was awarded a full Texas State Undergraduate Research Fellowship for her spring honors thesis production of Fefu and Her Friends by Maria Irene Fornes. Te fellowship will provide funding for the production. Brydon Lidle[4] (MFA Design) was assistant lighting designer for ZACH Teatre’s production of Into the Woods which is currently playing in Austin. Seven student playwrights and directors were selected for the 3rd James W Price Ten Minute Play Festival in partnership with the Jeremy Torres Lab Teatre. Te students include: Kaitlyn Moccia, Robert Lira, Kate Salters, Josh Kok, Crystal Lofton, Jaiden Compuesto, Samara Fraker, Jasmine Aurellio, Isabella Enriquez, Frida Cantu, Aili Ortega, and Trevor Wyatt. Tis festival will open November 5 - 7 via zoom performance. Eden Witvoet (Musical Teatre ’23) released her frst single, “Te Same Places.” Te song is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major streaming platforms. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Shelby Acosta (Musical Teatre ’15) opened Into the Woods at the Zach Teatre in Austin as Cinderella. Te show runs through November 7th. Maggie Bera (Musical Teatre ’17) participated in a sing through of Boy: A New Musical . Te show explores “the loss of innocence and how we all deal with grief ” and was created in hopes that people with similar experiences can feel “less isolated on their journey towards healing.” Trevor Berger (Musical Teatre ’18) opened Jersey Boys as Joey at Stages St. Louis in late September. Johnny Brantley (Musical Teatre ’16) was in a book panel discussion on Te Queens English on October 15th as part of the BLM Los Angeles Facebook Page. Bella Coppola (Musical Teatre ’20) was in Let’s Hear it For the Choice Live at the Green Room 42 in NYC. Nick Eibler (Musical Teatre ’19) performed in a reading of the new musical How to Repair a Mechanical Heart . HARRIET THE SPY Terissa Kelton is Executive Producing, Flight of the Navigator , with Bryce Dallas Howard slated to make her directorial debut. Terissa is also Executive producing Prophet , with Sam Hargrave directing and starring Jake Gyllenhaall. She is also a Co-Executive Producer for the animated series Harriet the Spy , (pictured) which will debut on Apple+ Tv in November.
