She appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show and received media coverage from Texas Monthly , Te Washington Post , Time , ABC , Hufngton Post , and Now Politics . [1] STUDENT ACCOLADES Seventeen out of nineteen students traveling to Trinidad later this month applied for and received funding from the STAR grant provided by Student Government. Te grand total awarded was $7,000. [2] ALUMNI ACCOLADES Our alumnus Shannon McMullan [3] was featured in a Dance Magazine article where she explains how it is possible to work full time and be a professional dancer: Her day job: McMullan works at a large structural engineering frm in Manhattan. She oversees the company’s research and development initiatives, handles internal marketing and communications, and plans large- scale events. She works roughly 40 hours per week and receives benefts, including health insurance and a 401(k). Pros and cons: “Te biggest sacrifce is missing out on intensives or going to technique classes in the middle of the day,” McMullan says. On the other hand, the job has allowed her to travel within the U.S. and abroad, and gives her the security of knowing she will always be able to pay her rent. Dealing with doubters: “I have had a lot of people criticize me for having a 9-to-5. Tey call my dance career a hobby,” she says. “Tat stereotype irks me. You learn so much from dance that you can implement it in other places. And dancers shouldn’t shy away from doing that.” INTERACTIVE STORY TELL HAYSCOUNTYHISTORICCOURTHOUSE MIHYUN KIM’S REIMAGINE FORGOT TEN COMMUNITY STORIES DISPLAY C3 The Center for Communication, Collaboration & Creativit y (C3) FULBRIGHTWORKSHOPONNOVEMBER12!
