- - COLLEGEOFFINEARTSANDCOMMUNICATION OCTOBER ISSUE FALL 2018 LET TER FROM THE DEAN DR . JOHN FLEMING Welcome to the October 2018 edition of College News . Once again there is a wealth of accolades earned by faculty, students and alumni. For example, Communication Design alum Mike Wood was part of the visual efects team that won an award for their work on Star Wars: Te Force Awakens (p.3), while acting alum Chelcie Ross is in the new Coen Brothers flm and Edi Patterson has a starring role in a new HBO series (p.19). Teaching excellence is evident in Jeremy Hutchins being named Educator of the Year by the Texas Intercollegiate Forensics Association (p. 7), while artistic excellence is seen by Laura Lane’s nomination for a B. Iden Payne Award (p.16) and the Faculty Art Exhibit being named the top exhibit to see in Texas by Glasstire (p.4). Te national and international impact of the college is seen in Lynzy Lab’s appearance on Te Jimmy Kimmel Show and the over 150 million views of her song “A Scary Time” (p. 10) as well as in Chuck Ney sharing his Shakespeare research in Buenos Aires (p.17). While graduate student Liz Fischer went to New York to collect her Princess Grace Award (p.18), Broadway came to us when Sarah Maines was asked to light the 80th birthday celebration of four time Tony winner Terrence McNally (p.16). In addition, the collaboration between faculty and students is seen in published research (Kaufhold and Lee, p.13) and in service, with Texas State co hosting the 2018 Public Relations Student Society of America National Conference (p.13).
