MUSIC Music, Music Studies, Per formance, & Sound Recording Technolog y FACULTY ACCOLADES Last summer, Professor Craig Aamot , Senior Lecturer of Choral Activities, led the eight-day KI Concerts Choral Festival in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Approximately 140 singers from seven states took part in rehearsals and performances at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin and Ulster Hall in Belfast. The festival also served as a miniature Aamot family reunion: his father Mark, a retired choral conductor, co-directed the festival, and the choir included his mother in the soprano section and his sister joining the altos. [1] Dr. Ames Asbell, Associate Professor of Viola, recently served as a guest artist at the 16th Annual University of Tennessee Viola Celebration in Knoxville. Asbell was featured in a solo performance in the Viola Celebration faculty recital, presented masterclasses, led classes in warmups and tango string techniques, and judged viola ensemble competitions alongside other guest artists: George Taylor (Eastman School of Music) and Philippe Chao (Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, Texas Tech University). [2] Dr. Lynn Ledbetter , Professor of Violin, participated in an e-learning webinar presented by the American String Teachers Association on September 11, 2022. Members of the ASTA Looking Forward Committee, including Dr. Ledbetter, presented a similar session at the national ASTA conference in Atlanta in March 2022. Dr. Martin G. McCain , Jr. , Professor of Trombone, recently completed two residencies at Stetson University (FL) and the Cleveland Institute of Music in September. At Stetson University, McCain taught applied lessons and coached chamber music. As a member of the McCain Duo, he performed in a recital, co-led two chamber music masterclasses, and taught a trombone masterclass. Dr. McCain also performed a concert with the Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass in Bloomington, IL. Craig Aamot had a miniature Aamot family reunion during the KI Concerts Choral Festival in Ireland and Northern Ireland Ames Asbell was recently featured in a solo performance where she served as guest artist in Knoxville Alec D.
