Aguirre’s Advertising Campaigns class form the team tasked with developing an environmentally- themed campaign for local generationOn clubs to use nationwide to solicit monetary and material donations for the youth to build and maintain community gardens. The team will work closely with advertising agency Richards/Lerma in Dallas to execute the ideas and will attend a learning workshop at the agency later in the semester. The AAF has provided funds for the team to travel to Los Angeles and attend the Advertising Hall of Achievement awards in November. The team will pitch the campaign to the AAF and generationOn in December. C3 The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) awarded $448,818 to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication to conduct research related to State of Texas Medicare beneficiaries under the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) – TXST MIPPA Project. By identifying barriers by region of the state, the study will determine the most effective communication outreach methods for providing individuals with Medicare and health information. Led by Judy Oskam (PI), the SJMC team consists of Kelly Kaufhold (Research Director), Kym Fox , Jenny Buschhorn , V anessa Higgins Joyce , Gigi Taylor and Jacie Yang . The project hired two full-time grant coordinators, Jessica James and Dan Seed , both graduates of the master’s program in Journalism and Mass Communication, and graduate research assistants, Zahra Khani (Geography), Rana Zeidan (Social Work) and Yazmin Rodriguez (Health Administration). Carrie Boden-McGill from the Department of Occupational, Workforce and Leadership Studies, College of Applied Arts, is a consultant on the statewide project. Lisa Westerbeck , C3 Research Coordinator, has provided budget and staff support.
