He also contributed the chapter “Refections on Hugo Riemann’s Musik-Lexikon and His Music Historiography” to the book Music Cultures in Sounds, Words and Images: Essays in Honor of Zdravko Blažeković (ed. by A. Baldassarre and T. Marković, Vienna: Hollitzer, 2018). Dr. Nico Schüler recently presented his latest research on African-American composer Jacob J. Sawyer (1856-1885) at the Society for American Music National Conference in Rochester, NY; at the American Musicological Society National Conference; at the German Society for Music Teory International Conference in Graz, Austria; as well as at several regional conferences. At the International Conference on Music Encoding in Tours, France, he presented on the Development of Computing Technology and Its Infuence on Music-Analytical Methods and Encoding. Dr. Schüler was invited to present a paper on Digital Music Research as a Bridge Between Sub- Disciplines at the Musicology in the Age of (Post) Globalization international conference in New York City. Dr. Keith Winking recently served as an adjudicator for both the International Trumpet Guild Youth Competition and the Texas UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest. He has now served as a trumpet adjudicator for the most prestigious state, national and international Trumpet Competitions. STUDENT ACCOLADES Graduate student James Cameron Dennis presented “CPU Mozart: Algorithmically Composing Miniature Pieces from Galant Schemata” at the College Music Society South Central Chapter Conference. Undergraduate student Eloy F. Ramirez III at the same conference presented “Te Use of the Bassoon in Paul Hindemith’s Concerto for Trumpet, Bassoon, and Strings”. Both were supervised by Dr. Nico Schüler. Seventeen students from his African-American Popular Music course presented posters at the 2018 Annual Undergraduate Research Conference at Texas State, and all three university-wide Best Poster Competition prizes went to students from Dr. Schüler’s course: Claire Partain (1st Place), Joshua Rogalski (2nd Place), and Derek Miller (3rd Place). Giselle Izaguirre , Hayley Rambo , Gabriel Vazquez , and Luis Gonzalez-Aponte are co-third-place winners in the 12th Annual URC Music and Society category poster competition. Reese Landis made it all the way to semi-fnalist for the 2018 National Student Auditions, a competition of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He was one of only two students from the entire Texoma Region (all of Texas, Oklahoma and half of New Mexico) to be named one of the fnal 14 singers in his category (Upper College Music Teater Men). Kyle Jurovic , on international tour with Texas Mosaix, a professional cover/worship band in Valencia, Spain and surrounding cities, performed in concert venues, churches, and on the streets. Student Quartet Coy Reid , Katie Blalock , Lauren Gordon , and Colby Rodriguez were the featured performers for an art exhibit at Te Meadows Center for Water and Environment. San Marcos, Texas. [2] ALUMNI ACCOLADES Jonah Bahta (M.M. 2014) has been appointed as an adjunct instructor of music at St. Phillip’s College. Tyler Clark was accepted for graduate study in Saxophone Performance at Baylor University. Alumnus Luca Giuseppe Cubisino has completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. He gratefully credits Dr. Jason Kwak , Dr. Mary Ellen Cavitt , and Dr. Tomas Clark . Eliud Garcia (B.M. 2015) was a featured soloist with the CollegiumMusicum Orchestra in Germany where he performed the Vaughan-Williams Tuba Concerto on bass trombone. A recent worship experience at First United Methodist Church of Harlingen was enhanced by the music ministry of alumni Tracy Roberts and Erin Kelleher Roberts .
