- - - - - - COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS AND COMMUNICATION SEPTEMBER ISSUE FALL 2018 LETTER FROM THE DEAN DR. JOHN FLEMING Welcome to the September 2018 edition of College News . Te ensuing samples of faculty, student, and alumni accolades exemplify the ever increasing impact exerted by the College of Fine Arts and Communication. Art education students travelled to MIT to present their Families Learning Together project they are conducting in San Marcos and Martindale (pp.2 3), while Dance students performed in London (p.10). Music faculty earned a National Endowment for the Arts grant (p.14), while both faculty and graduate students in Communication Studies earned Top Paper Awards from the National Communication Association (pp.6 8). Teatre’s production of Ragtime won 4 Austin Critics Table Awards (pp.16 17), while alums Stephen Brower, Gianna Yanelli, and Anna Uzele all made their Broadway debuts this year, with Johnny Brantley set for his debut in 2019 (pp.20 22). Likewise, alum Edi Patterson has become one of the premier comedic actresses on television (p.23). University Star columnist Tafari Robertson and adviser Laura Krantz earned national recognition (p.13). An interdisciplinary team (Communication Studies, Mass Communication, and Psychology) are conducting ground breaking research on the physiological and mental health efects of social media (p.6), and the winner of our 4th Annual CoSearch weekend was an interdisciplinary team with a project “TELeHealth Goes to School” that aims to meet the needs created by a lack of personnel to conduct required medical screenings for grade school students (p. 9).
