In his article, he discusses that as rhythmic concepts become more complex, we should look at diferent ways for students to connect music. Dr. Corley believes that Rock-n-Roll may help those rhythmic concepts in a fun and exciting way. His article includes examples with links to popular music videos. For the full article, click here. Tis summer, Dr. Cynthia I. Gonzales is the only music theorist delivering invited keynote talks at both national events on the topic of music theory pedagogy. Over Memorial Day weekend, Dr. Gonzales delivered an invited keynote presentation at Pedagogy Into Practice 2019 in Santa Barbara, CA. Te talk focused on utilizing SmartMusic for aural skills, because it allows students to practice and improve their skills in private. She also previewed her exercise designs that will be published in the software later this year, making her materials available to all SmartMusic subscribers. In June, she was in residence at UMass-Amherst as one of four invited faculty for the Workshops in Music Teory Pedagogy. Each day, she led a session on a diferent pedagogical topic. In between her presentations in CA and MA, Dr. Gonzales traveled to Kansas City, MO to grade AP Music Teory Exams. Hank Hehmsoth has been named a 2019 Morroe Berger-Benny Carter-Edward Berger Jazz Research Research Fellow by the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University. Te Institute of Jazz Studies is the world's foremost jazz archive and research facility. It was founded in 1952 by Marshall Stearns (1908-1966), a pioneer jazz scholar. In 1966, Rutgers was chosen as the collection's permanent academic home. Hehmsoth is currently working with a 2019 National Endowment for the Arts NEA ArtWorks grant.
