The Migration Stories book series designed by Molly Sherman was selected by AIGA and Design Observer for the international 50 Books | 50 Covers competition. Her winning design work is included in the AIGA Design Archives and published on Design Observer. Beverly Penn’s work will be exhibited at the Sun Cheon Culture & Arts Center, South Korea from November 28 – Dececember 2, and at Incheon Performing Arts & Culture, South Korea, from December 3 – 9. Currents Beneath the Surface , a two person show featured the work of Caprice Pierucci and Sydney Yeager at the Laura Rathe Gallery in Houston. Caprice was invited to sculpture residency at the Buffalo Creek Art Center in Nevada. Art Plus Artisans commissioned Caprice to create five art works for The Independent building’s collection in Austin. She is also working on many residential commissions as well as four art works for the Marriot Collection in Washington, D.C. Genaro Solis Rivera received the Silver Award at the Graphis Poster Annual 2020 for his "For Mexico" poster. He also received honorable mention’s for the works: "Tenoshade Identity" and "Dream Today Tomorrow." Randall Reid has a solo exhibition Signs of Wear at the William Campbell Gallery in Ft. Worth. Soomin Remmler’s drawing “Forbidden" was selected for the CPSA 27th International Exhibition , and was displayed at the Brea Gallery in California. [ 5 ] Liz Rodda's videos were selected for the Los Angeles Underground Film Forum and Dallas Medianale Screening. She also attended a one month artist residency at Byrdcliffe Art Colony in Woodstock, NY. Omari Souza has been asked to present a paper at the 51st Conference of the International Visual Literacy Association (IVLA) in Belgium. Omari Souza and Alice Lee have been asked to present co-authored papers at the DEL Conference-hosted by Texas State University, the "Decolonizing Design Towards Systemic Equity" session at the CAA Conference in February, and "Design and Principle" at Pratt in NYC. Lana Waldrep-Appl will have two paintings featured in the exhibition Warmly Persuasive at Tiger Strikes Asteroid in Los Angeles, California. STUDENT ACCOLADES The Spring 2019 Communication Design Exit Review, which Holly Sterling was an organizer for, was held at HomeAway (now VRBO) in Austin. Fifty-two graduating seniors showcased their online portfolios to over 350 design professionals, alumni, and friends at the event. The Top Portfolio Awards and Special Judge's Awards totaled $12,500 and overall fundraising exceeded $18,000. Karina Adams will be the new art teacher at Hernandez Middle School in Round Rock. Hannah Byers will be the new 6th grade art teacher at Lockhart Junior High. Gabriella Cadena will be a new art teacher at Jim Barnes Middle School in Seguin. Tracie DeLeon , has secured the art teacher position at Floresville Elementary, Pre-K through 5th. Elise Galperin will continue her career at Canyon High School as a full-time certified art teacher. Elizabeth Jewett will be the new Art I and Ceramics art teacher at Bastrop High School. Diana Weems will be the new art teacher at Seguin High School after a semester of subsitute teaching. College of Fine Arts and Communication | 5
