ART AND DESIGN Art , Art Education, Art Histor y, Communication Design, Photography, & Studio Art 2 | September | College News FACULTY ACCOLADES Kathleen McShane Bolton’s News Anxiety Drawings were included in Art Mile exhibition in Detroit between July and August. Shawn Camp was included in the group show Coping Mechanisms this summer at ICOSA gallery. Shawn Camp and Brian Johnson have work included in the 2020 Third Coast National Biennial exhibit at K Space Contemporary in Corpus Christi. The show was juried by Curator Rigoberto Luna, Co-founder and Exhibitions Curator of the Presa House Gallery in San Antonio. Luna selected 48 artists from 208 that submitted work for the 2020 exhibition. The complete list of accepted works along with a short video is available on the K Space Contemporary website. Jennifer Ling Datchuk's work Hit Me With Your Best Shot was included in Women Creating Nouns, Not Adjectives: Votes for Women on Vogue.com. [ 1 ] She was one of 11 artists who reflect on the 19th amendment in various ways as they celebrate through dress, create and reconstruct portraits, and restage objects in public and private spaces. All in an attempt to tell the courageous stories of the work of women and the impact they have had on the struggle to vote as they fought for freedom and human rights for the past 100 years globally. Jennifer's ceramic sculptures Model Minority , Rise Up , and American Girl were include in Voices for Change at Mindy Solomon Gallery in Miami, Florida during the month of July. Joey Fauerso gave a virtual talk on her work with artist Lenka Clayton and curators Veronica Roberts and Makenzie Stevens hosted by the Blanton Museum of Art on September 15th. Joey's 4 channel video You Destroy Every Special Thing I Make was acquired by the New Mexico State University Art Museum. Hit Me With Your Best Shot , 2019 Jennifer Ling Datchuk 16 × 20 in Box Frame, 2018, Tommy Fitzpatrick Acrylic on canvas over panel 48 1/4 × 37 in One of the social media campaign designs for The State of Black Design 1 2 3 Tommy Fitzpatrick has works included in a show entitled Selections from the collection of Bill Lassiter on view at Inman Gallery in Houston. [ 2 ] All the proceeds from the sale of works will go to the Menil Collection in Houston. Sean Justice (PI) and Lori Assaf (Co-PI), a professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, received a $450,000 National Science Foundation grant to improve the computer thinking skills of early elementary teachers. The three-year grant from the NSF Division of Research on Learning will support “Exploring PreK-2 Teachers’ Abilities to Identify CT Precursors and Implement Learning Activities that Strengthen Computer Science in Early Childhood Classrooms,” a cross-disciplinary research collaboration between an art educator (Justice) and a literacy teacher educator (Assaf ). Read more here. MiHyun Kim gave a lecture as part of the online guest lecture series for Advanced Graphic Design class at Fitchburg State University, Massachusetts on May 5. The lecture topic was "Participatory Digital Design Projects." MiHyun was invited to the 16th Gwanghwamun International Art Festival to exhibit "Stories Become Data: How Stories and Visual Narrative can be Collected as Data through Co-Creation Processes." The exhibition was held at Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul, South Korea from June 10 - 15. She was invited to give a lecture on Interaction Design at 2020 KSBDA (Korea Society of Basic Design and Art) Spring International Conference. She presented her ongoing project, "Stories become Data" virtually with seven other international artists and designers on June 19th. MiHyun presented her paper, “Incorporating User-Centered Design Methodology and Emerging Technology into Pedagogical Practice” at the UCDA (the University & College Designers Association) Design Education Summit virtually. The conference was an asynchronous format with a permanent online archive with pre- recorded presentations and papers. Branding and identity project/ social media campaign design for The State of Black Design—a virtual panel moderated by Omari Souza . The conversation was segmented into four focused panels: Industry, Pedagogy, Black Design Organizations, and Design Activism. The event was held on September 18. The fonts chosen are bold and make a statement, just like the impact of this panel’s subject. The colors chosen are two cool-toned and two warm-toned colors paired with black and white, showcasing the unity and complementary that all the colors can create when working together.
