reputation as one of Hollywood’s foremost composers, whose film scoring and orchestration credits include Avatar , The Little Mermaid , The Amazing Spider- Man , and Deep Impact . Another memorable moment in Dr. Tangarov’s summer was his performance in a reimagined version of Beethoven’s Wind Quintet, Op. 16, as part of the esteemed 2023 International Clarinet Association Clarinet Fest in Denver, CO. This adaptation added a fresh artistic twist to a beloved classical piece. Dr. Tangarov’s summer musical journey concluded with his role as the conductor of the Jonio Pelagos Baroque Chamber Orchestra in Calabria, Italy. This opportunity afforded him the privilege of leading the ensemble during a performance of an arrangement of Mozart’s Grand Partita, K. 361. There was a strong showing from the Texas State University School of Music at the 2023 Victoria Bach Festival. The final performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 included faculty and alumni: Hilary Janysek , Ian Davidson , Mika Valenzuela , Korrigan Korthauer , Vanguel Tangarov , Raúl I. Rodríguez , and Faith DeBow . [7] STUDENT ACCOLADES The Apollo Saxophone Quartet ( Tomas Hinojosa , Jaime Fernandez , Miles Avelar , and Emma Hallett ) has been selected to perform a twenty-five-minute showcase concert at Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention in February 2024. Miles Avelar was accepted via audition to attend the 13th Annual Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival at the Juilliard School in July and August 2023. Imani Winds Chamber Music (IWCMF) festival is an intense summer program devoted to performance excellence and career development. After years of giving masterclasses and lectures around the country, the group desired to create something more expansive to teach and mentor students of chamber music. This desire, turned reality, has shaped the IWCMF into a highly successful New York City summer institute and festival.
