THEATRE Acting, Musical Theatre, Per formance and Production, Teacher Certif ication in Theatre, Technical Production, & Theatre DEPARTMENT ACCOLADES Texas State’s Department of Theatre and Dance ran another successful year of the Black and Latino Playwright’s Celebration this September featuring many of our Texas State Bobcats. The featured plays included LaDarrion Williams’ Hurt People and Franky Gonzalez’s Escobars Hippo. Guest artists included Ignoisco Miles, David J. Cork, Sidney Rushing , Kathleen Capdesuner, and Jonathan Acosta. The beginning of the celebration also hosted a tribute to playwright Carlos Morton directed by Jerry Ruiz. The Theatre program was recently featured in the San Antonio Express-News . FACULTY ACCOLADES Yesenia Garcia Herrington, received an Emerging Director Fellowship from The Lyric Repertoire Theater in Logan, UT. She directed a series of staged readings for The Lyric Rep's interACT series including Little Perfect You by Caitlin Turnage . Her portrayal of Esther in Raul Garza's Arbolito was directed by Jerry Ruiz as part of the Green New Theatre Symposium at The Vortex Theatre in Austin. Ana Martínez gave a presentation about Latin American performance and ecology at the recent ATHE (Association for Theatre in Higher Education) conference in Austin. Her interview with María Buenaventura, "Sancocho, teatro y pez Capitán," has been published in the Fall issue of Latin American Theatre Review . She was invited to the radio program "La Pedagógica Radio" of Colombia's Universidad Pedagógica Nacional to talk about her work, research, and recent publications (available here: Tablas y Tableros) Michelle Ney designed scenery for ZACH Theatre’s productions of Head Over Heels , and Roe .
