College of Fine Arts and Communication | 9 4 Assistant professor in Communication Design, Omari Souza 5 Te Sustainable Legacy of Agnès Varda: Feminist Practice and Pedagogy featuring lead chapter by Jennifer Stob 6 Artwork by Lana Waldrep-Appl featured in her recent exhibition, Look 4 | January & February | College News Rand Renfrow and Jefrey Dell opened an exhibition, Tree Ways of Knowing the Same Ting , at the Georgetown Arts Center on January 15. Te show is up until February 12. Claudia Roeschmann was invited to present her talk “Reconceptualising cross-disciplinary teaching and responding to uncertainty” at the Online Education Berlin (OEB) Conference on December 3, 2021, in Berlin, Germany, as part of the proof resilience panel. Omari Souza [4] gave a guest lecture on speculative design to UNT. Omari presented some of his research to Google's Black UX cohort. He will also be presenting at SXSW with IBM in March. He will be presenting on the State of Black Design and its impact on the design community. He will be leading a design initiative in collaboration with DFA, and Rwanda's Minister of Health. Tis research assignment will be exploring how visual communication could be used to better train populations on how to understand and diagnose COVID symptoms. Te target population is speaking four separate languages and has varying social needs. "Varda's Formalist Feminism” by Jennifer Stob is the lead chapter in the anthology, Te Sustainable Legacy of Agnès Varda: Feminist Practice and Pedagogy (Colleen Kennedy-Karpat and Feride Çiçekoglu, eds.), forthcoming from Bloomsbury Academic in April. [5] Lana Waldrep-Appl’s two-person show with Jenn Wilson Shepherd, Look , opened January 22 at Icosa Collective gallery in Austin. Te show ran through February 19th. C3 The Center for Communication, Collaboration & Creativit y (C3) REP FUNDING In December, the FY 2022 Research Enhancement Program (REP) grant cycle awarded eleven projects totaling $101,615 to College of Fine Arts and Communication faculty. Among all colleges, COFAC was awarded the most total funding, a frst for the college in the REP competition. A total of 28 applications were submitted with COFAC faculty serving as the project leads. Te FY 2022 REP Awardees include: Barry Stone , Molly Sherman , Kristen Farris , Manu Pokharel , Vanessa Higgins-Joyce , Mike Devlin , Kim Youjeong , Cindy Royal , Ames Asbell , Karla Hamelin , and Ana Martinez . Te C3 Team encourages all COFAC faculty who applied for an REP in this past funding cycle and in the ones prior, to work with C3 to seek external funding opportunities for their projects. Furthermore, Matthew Winn (mwinn@txstate. edu) is always happy to help faculty get a jumpstart on REP proposals for the FY 2023 funding cycle! FULBRIGHT WORKSHOP All faculty are invited to learn more about the Fulbright Scholar Program from Daris Hale and the C3 Team. Daris is Texas State University’s Fulbright Campus Representative and a faculty member from the School of Music. A Fulbright scholar herself, Daris has a comprehensive understanding of the Fulbright application process. Te workshop will be held via Zoom on Friday, March 25, at 3pm. Tis workshop will include an overview of the Fulbright Scholar Program, advice for creating an efective application, and a question and answer session for those who have unique questions regarding the Fulbright Program. If you are interested in applying for a Fulbright or even if you just want to learn more about to program, please sign up for the workshop on the C3 Center’s Website!
