Te hardback, 176 page full-color publication, titled Our New Room , features Allen’s sculptural and installation work from the last few years alongside a feature essay by art historian Sarah Hamill, a sequence of poems by Christopher Rey Pérez, a short essay by Emily Lee, and an interview conducted by fellow artist Ian Pedigo. Jennifer Ling Datchuk hosted a closing reception "Salon Night" artist talk in conversation with a Houston nail salon as part of her exhibition Later, Longer, Fewer at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. Tis show was also named one of the best exhibitions in Texas during 2021 by Glasstire . Jennifer’s piece "Enter the Dragon" was acquired by the San Antonio Museum of Art for their Contemporary Collection. Tis piece is about Chinese American actor and martial artist Bruce Lee and how his creation of Jeet Kun Do was originally based of of Wing Chun, a form of martial arts created by a nun to teach women to defend themselves from the advances of men. Jennifer alongside Antonius Bui, a poly-disciplinary artist who works in hand-cut paper, performance, and community engagement, were in conversation with one another over Zoom regarding their commissioned works for University of Southern California's Pacifc Asia Museum. Jefrey Dell had a solo exhibition in February at David Shelton Gallery in Houston. Te Miro Gallery part of the Stevenson Arts Foundation in conjunction with Qualia Contemporary Art is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Tommy Fitzpatrick , Reconstructing Utopia , which opened on January 21st in San Jose, California. [1] Brittany Ham will be featured in an upcoming group show titled Drawn in San Antonio-Today at the McNay Museum of Art in San Antonio. She will have four drawings on display in the exhibition. Te show will run from February 2 - September 11, 2022. Ariel Jackson has two shows and programing this semester: A Welcoming Place , at the Women & Teir Work Gallery and Te Way Back Home, at Ideal Lab: Art Galleries at Black Studies. Dr. Kevin Jenkins' book chapter "Vagina Dialogues: Un/Mediated, Un/Censored" was recently published in NAEA Women's Caucus Lobby Activism: Feminism(s) + Art Education , edited by Karen Keifer-Boyd, Linda Hoeptner Poling, Sheri R. Klein, Wanda B. Knight, and Adetty Pérez de Miles . [2] Bethany Johnson's solo exhibition, Findings , is on view at grayDUCK Gallery in Austin, which opened January 22nd. Tere was an artist talk in the gallery on February 13th and the exhibition will be on view through March 6. Bethany's work will be included in the exhibition Texas Artists: Women of Abstraction at the Museum of South Texas, opening February 4th. Jefrey Lieber participated in the Texas Historical Commission's quarterly State Board of Review Meeting in his capacity as a board member (January 15). Nine nominations were considered for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, including Central Marfa Historic District. Beverly Penn’s solo exhibition Radical Adaptation at Lisa Sette Gallery in Phoenix featured twenty-one bronze sculptures. Te show opened on January 8 and ran through February 26. Adetty Pérez de Miles , recently published book, NAEA Women’s Caucus Lobby Activism: Feminism(s) + Art Education , provides both a history of the annual lobby activism events of the National Art Education Association (NAEA) Women’s Caucus and ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Mark Menjivar was selected for the 2022 artist installation at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. Considered to be the world's frst true penitentiary, Eastern State was operational from 1829 until 1971 and now functions as a museum and historic site. Mark will serve as the 2022 Artist-in-Residence with the Texas After Violence Project (TAVP) located in Austin. While Mark has worked with TAVP for many years, generous funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is now allowing the residency to expand. TAVP is a community-based archive and documentary project cultivating deeper understandings of the impacts of state- sanctioned violence on individuals, families, and communities. of the resulting pathways toward eradicating gender discrimination as gender intersects with race, sexuality, disability, and social class marginalization in the art world, cultural institutions, schools, visual culture, curricula, and history. Te book’s co-editors are Karen Keifer-Boyd, Linda Hoeptner Poling, Sheri R. Klein, and Wanda B. Knight. Four of Elvia Perrin’s prints "Cassette”, "Vault", "Fossil" + "Timing" will be selling at Pottery Barn Retailer in 2022. [3] Caprice Pierucci’s sculptural works were shown by Moderne Gallery at Te Salon: Art and Design, New York, New York. Moderne Gallery also featured her work at Design Miami, Miami, Florida.
