[1] As soon as the production closed, Michael began design meetings for directing next season’s production of Arthur Miller’s classic, Te Crucible , which will be performed in late October 2018 on the department’s Main Stage. Cheri DeVol participated in the United States Institute of Teatre Technology 2018 Design Expo, a juried exhibit of scenery, costume, and lighting in the performing arts. Her scenic design for the Texas State production of Intimate Apparel by Lynne Nottage, was chosen from among 159 exhibits as an outstanding design to be included in the Design Expo Catalog which will appear in the Summer 2018 issue of USITT’s journal, TD&T- Teatre Design & Technology . She was also elected to the board of the SWUSITT, an independent organization of design, production and technology professionals, educators, and students in the visual and performing arts industry serving the greater Southwest Region of the United States. Cheri DeVol and Lorin Flores have received an Online Resource Grant from the university in the amount of $27,500 to develop a Performance Design Archive. Babs George has a leading role in en Bloc’s production of Te Secretary , an of-beat comedy about gun violence by Kyle John Schmidt. Te production plays through April 8 at the Long Center. Erin Kehr , in collaboration with Ariel Emmerson, created puppets for a staged reading of Te Little Edelweiss or An Immigrant’s Fairytale by Josh Inocenio at Stages Repertory Teatre in Houston. [2] Te reading was a part of the theatre’s Sin Muros: A Latina/o Teatre Festival. Laura Lane plays Agamomnem in the Rude Mech’s production of Fixing Troilus and Cressida , playing to great reviews at the Of-Center through March 31. Joni Lorraine of BroadwayWorldAustin , calls her performance “inspired” and Andrew J. Friedenthal of Austin 360 notes her ability to “efortlessly switch from a character whose every line elicits uproarious laughter to a vengeful leader in the midst of bloody warfare.” Sarah EC Maines has been invited to design lighting for ZACHTeatre’s production of Once , as well as their production of A Christmas Carol: A Rockin’ Family Musical. STUDENT ACCOLADES Annalise Caudle and Ethan Jones (MFA – Design) have been accepted to present at the Hemsley Lighting Program’s 14th Annual Lighting Portfolio Review in New York City in April. Naomi Davis’ play Te Colored Francine is one of 16 national semi-fnalists for the John S. Cauble Outstanding Short Play award. Naomi is a BFA student in the Performance and Production program. Te Meeting , a play by Lauren Ferebee (MFA – Dramatic Writing) is one of four national fnalists for the Gary Garrison Ten Minute Play award and will travel to Washington, DC to attend the Kennedy Center/American College Teatre Festival’s national convention. Her play Every Waiting Heart is also a fnalist for Artemisia Teatre’s Fall Festival 2018 in Chicago. In addition, she will be presenting a position paper as part of the Manifestos and Manifestations Roundtable Series: “What Makes a Manifesto?” at the Association for Teatre in Higher Education national conference in Boston this summer. Andrew Gutierrez (BFA – Technical Production) won the Region 6 Kennedy Center/American College Teatre Festival National Stage Management Fellowship award for his work on the Texas State production of Hamlet . As part of the award, Andrew will travel to DC in April for workshops and the opportunity to work with theatre professionals from around the country. Andrew has also accepted an ofer to attend graduate school at UC San Diego, where he will work with the Department of Teatre & Dance and the Tony-Award winning La Jolla Playhouse in pursuit of an MFA in Stage Management. Nick Hart (BFA – Technical Production) won a Meritorious Achievement Award in Sound Design for his work on the departmental production of Hamlet at the Region 6, Kennedy Center/American College Teatre Festival. Andrew Heinrich’s play Jersey Beef is one of six winners of the 16th annual Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry produced by Sundog Teatre in New York City. Performances are April 14 through 15 and April 20 through 22. Tis is a frst New York production for Andrew, who is a third-year Dramatic Writing MFA student. Andrew is also one of four national fnalists for the Gary Garrison Ten Minute play award for his play, Canvas and will travel to the National Conference in Washington, DC. In addition, Andrew’s play Instructions for Dancing was produced in the PSH Foundation Studio Teatre in February, playing to sold-out audiences. Sidney Rushing’s play Courting Mayhem is one of 16 national semi-fnalists for the John S. Cauble Outstanding Short Play award. Sidney graduates in May with an MFA in Dramatic Writing. Stacey Johnson (MFA – Costume Design) won the Barbizon Award for Excellence in Costume Design competition at the Region 6, Kennedy Center/American College Teatre Festival, and will be a National Finalist at the Kennedy Center in April. Te award was for her work on the department’s production of A Chorus Line . Ethan Jones (MFA – Design) has been invited to return to Monomoy Teatre in Cape Cod to design lights for four productions of their summer season. After graduating in May, Marissa Menezes (MFA – Design) will join the Public Teatre in New York City as a Costume Design Intern where she will assist with Shakespeare in the Park and other productions. Corey Nelson (BFA—Technical Production) received and ofer for a contract with Carnival Cruise Lines as a Floor Technician. Carlos Nine (MFA – Design) has been invited to design lighting for twelve productions at King’s Dominion theme park in Virginia in November. Allison Price (MFA – Directing) won the SDC Directing Initiative Award at the Region 6 Kennedy Center/ American College Teatre Festival and will travel to DC for workshops with nationally acclaimed directors.
