COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS AND COMMUNICATION OCTOBER ISSUE | FALL 2019 LETTER FROM THE DEAN DR. JOHN FLEMING Welcome to the October edition of College News , flled with examples of faculty, students, and alumni extending the Bobcat brand across the globe. Art faculty engaged in international projects in Brazil, Berlin, Belgium, Austria, and Zurich (pp. 3-4). Communication design lecturer Genaro Solis Rivero won a Silver Award from Advertising Annual 2020 (p.3). Ann Burnette’s research was cited in Te Washington Post , while Michael Burns was the keynote speaker at Ohio State University’s Academic Leadership Forum, where he discussed our CoSearch process. Dance was engaged internationally in Trinidad, Spain, Mexico, Iraq, South Korea, Brazil, Colombia, and the Netherlands (pp.8-9). Te School of Journalism and Mass Communication hosted its 30th Mass Comm Week, with guest speakers such as alums Norma Lujan, Pablo Mercado, Brant Freeman, and Emmy Award-winning journalist Lynn Walsh (p.11). In Music, Martin McCain was an artist-in- residence in Bangkok (p.14), while alum Danielle Stevens Nutting earned a Fulbright grant to do her dissertation research on the classical fute tradition in Bulgaria (p.15). In Teatre, Johnny McAllister's flm, Bull , which screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May, has now been picked up for distribution by Samuel Goldwyn Films; Johnny also placed third in the American Institute of Architecture's 2019 Film Challenge (p.16). Alum Bobby Moreno was featured in American Teatre (p.18), and graduate student Alison Price has won numerous national awards and a rave review for the department's production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (p.19). Finally, I had the great pleasure of meeting alumni in the Los Angeles area (pp.12-13). Some were students I had taught, while others graduated before I started here in 1999; but in all cases, they represented the best of this university, a mix of personal character, career success, and pride in being a Bobcat.
